For UCF, the answer is obvious. Quality competition. They need to go out and find big name teams to play. Notre Dame, Clemson, Ohio State. Go out there. Quit scheduling ANY FCS teams. Load up your schedule. I'm sure BYU would play...
For Ohio State, they cannot quit if they are losing on the road. For two years straight, they have lost badly on the road, and that sticks out like a sore thumb. The committee does not like bad, ugly losses. You cannot get blown out by 6-6 Purdue and 7-5 Iowa. Margin of victory comes up when dissecting these schedules.

Heard UCF AD, Danny White , on SERIUS explaining how he's called all the so called P5 powers looking for home & home series but they were too afraid ( well, not interested)

UCF needs to schedule ONLY P5 teams for OOC games... and, not have games cancelled by hurricanes.
But, next year... all they have to do is.. WIN!

They run the table next year to reach 37-0 and play all P5 OOC teams and win every game 40-0 their unofficial ceiling in the CFP fraudulent system is still #5. That's just how the cartel's exclusionary system is designed.
Only hope for a really strong mid, so called "G5" ( still a made up moniker by the cartel ) to make a 4 team Invitational is if ESPN thinks it can sell it. Only then will that all powerful network hype the G5 and lobby the committee to make it happen. ...and piss off the rest of the cartel.

Your opinion.
I think you're wrong. I think they'd make it rather easily in that scenario.
They COULD have made it this year, even missing the GT game... but, it would have taken a lot.
Of course... when you consider the absolute FRAUD of the Big 12 officiating, I guess they never really have ANY chance this year.

Outside of that they have scheduled GT and UNC, Pitt....they blew out Pitt, GT was hurricane, and UNC cancelled.
AS far out as most scheduling is done, it would not have mattered if UCF had scheduled FSU in 2018 (back in 2012). Would not have helped at all.

Not too many contenders want to play Bama in OOC.
