Alabama and Clemson could be missing players for disciplinary reasons in their College Football Playoff semifinal games on Saturday.
Alabama suspended the starting left guard Deonte Brown and two other players from the Orange Bowl for violating unspecified team rules, and Clemson Coach Dabo Swinney said the star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence and two other players had failed N.C.A.A. tests for performance-enhancing drugs and might not play in the Cotton Bowl.

Crimson Tide Coach Nick Saban said in a statement that Brown, tight end Kedrick James and offensive lineman Elliot Baker had not made the trip to Miami on Monday with the rest of the team.
Top-ranked Alabama faces Oklahoma on Saturday night in a semifinal game.
Saban did not indicate how long the suspensions would be or whether they might extend to the national championship game, on Jan. 7, if Alabama wins on Saturday.

I had to look ostarine up - never heard of it.
It’s popping up in products from GNC and energy drinks and even hair care products.
Companies are renaming things and sticking them in supplements and other products with lots of chemical ingredients like energy drinks and the powers that be can’t or won’t stay in front. Subway and McDonald’s among others had azodicarbonamide in their breads a few years ago as a bleaching agent which was also used to increase elasticity in yoga mats and shoe soles.
The NCAA called it a "slither" of ostarine that showed up in their pee tests.
The B sample test results should be available late Wednesday or early Thursday.
If what Dabo said is correct that Dex and company tested positive with a "trace" amount I think we are in good shape. I pretty sure the NCAA uses pee tests. I doubt they use the dipstick type. The test was either the gas/liquid chromatography (GC/LC) type or the mass mass spectrometry (MS) for the type A test administered last week.
Note: it is practically impossible to defeat the these types of tests. If they HAVE intentionally been using a bit recently, they are done for the B test on Wednesday.
FYI, Dipstick tests only yield positive or negative results, aren’t that accurate, and don’t usually indicate the amount of prevalence of the drugs in your system.
The good news is that Ostarine has about a 24 hour half life for your body to metabolize. Now if a trace/sliver was detected last week via GC, MS, or LC type test, chances are these guys will pass the B test on Wednesday as the trace amounts will be metabolized in the week or so since the last screening.
Pee tests are good at about the 50ng/ml level. Gas or liquid chromatograph testing is much more precise - 5 ng/ml.

This is what happened to Will Grier at Florida.
NCAA penalty is automatic 1 year suspension.

Brown will be a big loss for Bama's OLine. Knuckle heads. At least we own the referees, so we have that going for us.

Big news from Bama presser: Tua's ankle estimated at 80-85 percent for game. Yeah, but Murray has a $5 million baseball contract and has probably been on the banquet tour since winning the Heisman so there’s the equalizer. And when the 1st guy on the bench has started 2 NC games I think Alabama will be fine.

So the B samples were also upheld. All 3 players are automatically suspended for 1 year, pending any potential legal injunction.
Looks like Dexter is done for his career at Clemson, he's off to the NFL. Sad that he will not go out the way he wanted.
Lawrence had a 0.02% trace / sliver of osterine in his system. Dabo said that's equivalent to a few grains of sand.
I'm lead to believe this was some accident from a contaminated / misrepresented product.
Huggins will be a very capable starter in his place, but it makes Clemson go to the 3rd string guy a lot quicker than we otherwise might in a normal rotation.
Dabo said all 3 players have legal representation, however any injuction is at the mercy and speed of the NCAA...so I'm not holding my breath.

ESPN showed a stat yesterday; When Lawrence is in the lineup, teams average 1.7 yards per running play. Without him, teams average 3.0 yards per rush.

He definitely clogs up the middle.
Not sure how meaningful that stat is, because when Dex is usually not in the game, the whole 2nd team is also in...because a lot of those "extra yards per carry" came after we already had a big lead and we had pulled all of our starters, not just Dex.
