UGA (maybe)
If you were a coach, would you rather take VT or SCAR and why? you have to think Marc Richt is probably done at Georgia....the Alabama and Florida games were woeful. It just seems like Georgia has run out of steam...especially when the SEC East is so weak right now And what's the better job between VT and SCAR? they seem very similar actually....South Carolina has a bit of a harder road, especially with Clemson soaring. A good coach could fall right into VT and start dominating the division

Question - if you are considering VT, MIA or SCAR, which one would you pick?

Question - if you are considering VT, MIA or SCAR, which one would you pick? Tough call... I think, for me? Probably VT. They have a more dedicated fan base.... and better college atmosphere. Too many headaches in Miami, and SCAR? They can never be kept happy

I agree. VaTech has a seemingly easier path to a conference title game than South Carolina, and better facilities / fan support than Miami. Also VaTech has never won the MNC whereas Miami has won several...I think there's something neat about trying to do something for the first time at a school. All else being equal, I would take the VaTech gig.

I can see VT making a run at Rich Rodriguez, he'd probably be a good fit. The thing is at VT and Carolina, you're following a living legend and the greatest coach in the schools history. That's a tough situation to be put in. Ask Earle Bruce what it was like following Woody Hayes - he averaged 9 wins a season, went to a bowl game every year and had a winning record against Bo Schembechler and it still got him fired. At Miami, you're following several guys who basically tanked. If I'm Miami, I actually take a run at Butch Davis - I'll bet he'd jump at the opportunity. Seems like a perfect fit.

Davis has already said he is interested. Some baggage but I doubt Miami will care much. Butts in seats is priority one.

LOL I was thinking about Fred Akers... He won 83% of his games and came a whisker away from two National Titles.... but, coming after Darell Royal? Not enough.

Bum Phillips said there are only two kinds of coaches...those who have been fired and those who are going to be fired.

Do you want the #1 or #2 job in the Coastal, or the #4 job in the East?
I would lean VT as my 1st pick for the reasons you aptly stated. You have that Hwy 460 / talent pipeline to the Tidewater area of Virginia (Tahj Boyd, the Vicks, EJ Manuel, Bly, LT, Harvin, Bruce Smith, etc. Lots of speed and talent there, ready for the taking.
Excellent facilities, rabid fanbase, school support.
Miami has baggage but also a good spot for elite talent, and study after study shows that kids prefer to play local if at all possible.
SCAR would be the last spot, with FLA and TN in resurgence mode, I feel the Gamecocks have failed to capitalize for the long-term. Spurrier took advantage of outlier data points, Clemson down right after firing Bowden, UF down, TN down and SC HSFB produced a significant load of in state talent, an outlier couple of years...Mizzou won that division - a middling B12 team.

SC fans have a lot of tolerance for misery....hell they went 0-12 a decade ago and still sold out Williams Bryce. But it's pretty hard to win at a top 10 level there over the years with that SEC schedule with Clemson thrown in, to boot.
