I did s pretty good job on my AA predictions but due to shitty traffic in Cincinnati, I didn't get to post them before the announcements. Here you go...
Best Director
Alfonso Cuaron - Roma
Peter Farelly - Green Book
Spike Lee - BlackkKlansman
Adam McKay - Vice
Bradley Cooper - A Star is Born
I missed a couple on this one - Cooper and Farelly were not nominated and replaced by the directors of The Favorite and Cold War, a polish film set around the beginning of the Cold War - haven't seen and doubt I ever will.
Alfonso Cuaron is definitely the favorite here - in fact, it may be a very big night for Alfonso who also directed Gravity a few years ago.
Best Supporting Actress
Amy Adams - Vice
Rachel Waitz - The Favourite
Emma Stone - The Favourite
Regina King - If Beale Street Could Talk
Claire Foy - First Man
I got 4 out of 5, Claire Foy was not nominated, a supporting actress from Roma got the 5th spot. Regina King appears to be the one to beat - would love to see Emma Stone or Amy Adams get it.
Best Supporting Actor
Mahershala Ali - Green Book
Sam Rockwell - Vice
Adam Driver - BlackkKlansman
Timothee Chalamet - Beautiful Boy
Michael Jordan - Black Panther
Missed on 2 as Chalamet and Jordan were not nominated. They were replaced by Richard E. Grant of Will you Ever Forgive Me and Sam Elliott of A Star is Born. I'd be surprised in Ali doesn't win even though he won 2 years ago.
Best Actress
Olivia Colman - The Favourite
Glenn Close - The Wife
Yalitza Aparicio - Roma
Melissa McCarthy - Will You Ever Forgive Me
Stefani Germanotto - A Star is Born
Nailed all 5 (figuratively!) - I had a suspicion the Roma actress would get a nomination. It appears it's Glenn Closes' year to win but I wouldn't rule out Colman or Germanotto (AKA Lady Gaga).
Best Actor
Ethan Hawke - First Reformed
Christian Bale - Vice
Rami Malek - Bohemian Rhapsody
Bradley Cooper - A Star is Born
Viggo Mortensen - Green Card
I missed on Ethan Hawke - he was replaced by Willem Defoe. I think Christian Bale is the favorite but would love to see Rami Malek or Viggo Mortensn win - I thought both their performances were awesome. Bale has won before but he seems to be winning all the awards leading up to the Oscars.
Best Picture
Black Panther
BlackkKlansman
Green Book
A Star is Born
If Beale Street Could Talk
Vice
Roma
The Favourite
Mary Poppins Returns
I missed 2 here - Beale Street and Poppins were not nominated. Bohemian Rhapsody takes the final sport - I projected 9 and only 8 were actually nominated. As much as I enjoyed Bohemian Rhapsody, I can't get over the time line issues they had with some songs as well as Freddie's AIDS diagnosis. I think there will be Oscar history as Roma could become the first foreign language film to win Best Picture. We'll see in a bout a month.
