So, I'm not really worried about Justin Fields - I think he'll have a great year as long as he doesn't get injured - and I also think his running ability will pay huge dividends for JK Dobbins. He should have his best season of his career.
OSU needs to keep Fields healthy because the back-ups will be a huge drop off. But couldn't the same be said if Tua or Lawrence or just about any starting QB goes down?
But back to the thread titile - here are a few OSU freshmen and sophs who I think will have breakout/productive years....
Garrett Wilson - FR receiver. 5 star should get plenty of playing time as OSU replaces 3 startes from last year's receiving corp which caught 50 TD passes.
Zach Harrison - Fr DE. Another 5 star recruit - he decided to stay home as he's from Columbus. OSU is pretty deep at DE but with Cooper dinged up for the first game or two Harrison should see some time and if productive, they'll have to find him plating time.
Taron Vincent - Soph DL - DL is another deep position and they'll keep these guys fresh by rotating as many as 8 players in and out.
Tommy Togiai - Soph DL- Same as Vincent - He'll rotate in along with upperclassmen Landers, Cornell, Hamilton and a few others.
Tyreke Smith - Soph DE - another part of the deep DL players led by Chase Fields.
Teradja Mitchell - Soph LB - I think this guy is key. Last year the defensive weakness was LB - specifically Borland and Werner. They're both back and listed as first team. Borland played injured last year and simply wasn't fast enough to handle the job. They need Mitchell to work his way into the rotation - and I think he will - along with Baron Browning. I'm not worried about the other LB, Malik Harrison but either Borland or Werner get a lot better or get Mitchell in there - LB is the key to Ohio State's success in my opinion; all the other pieces are there.

Sounds very promising. LB play last year was just not good. I wonder if it was coaching or personnel. Seeing what the new coaches did at ttun you would think we will be light years better than last year.

At any rate, I have a hard time believing recruiting evaluators and the OSU coaching staff could whiff on every linebacker they've recruited the past several years with most being 4 or 5 star talent. I'm hoping they put the right players out there this year.

That Teradja Mitchell, LB you mentioned, Doc, is a Virginia boy and listed as first on the depth chart. Have no worries

Yep V Bch - that Tidewater hotbed of speed This post was from last year - the BOTs resurfaced it. Reading it I think i was spot on although Borland and Werner played lightyears better than I thought they would. both are back this year along with Browning, Mitchell, Hilliard and a cast of youngsters who might have a hard time getting on the field other than special teams. Vincent was injured all last year so hopefully he'll be a big contributor this year. Harrison will replace Young - he's a stud. Wilson will be a featured guy with the departure of Hill - he could be All American but then again, so might Olave. And they have the best incoming receiver in the country in Julian Fleming - just an amazing amount of talent in that receiving room....
