Ok, you learn something everyday around here..... 92% of all college football players, college coaches, teams and college games played....past, present and future were, are, and will be insignificant.
If you have time some day, Bevo, check the Pro Football Hall Of Fame head coaches and even the current NFL head coaching list representing the very highest level of American Football. I believe you'll find a clear majority come from 'insignificance'. How can so much insignificance occur at the very highest level of the sport ?

Not sure...I ran some quick numbers, so accuracy may not be 100% 212 of 361 were from recognizable "name brand" / P5 / D1 - whatever you want to call it programs, that's ~60% of the HOF.

5 of the 23 HOF NFL coaches came from top 20 name brand big TV CF programs ...that's what Bevo and I were discussing. That would be 21%......and not a single one from an SEC or ACC school.
79% from insignificant college football

?? I wasn't discussing NFL HOF coaches. That came from YOUR fertile mind. I was talking about COLLEGE FOOTBALL, and which teams are significant to the sport. The P5 conferences generate more than 90% of the revenue and probably 98+% of the profit. Actually, their % of the profit is likely >100%, since so many of the other programs are NOT profitable at all. ALL other college football could end, tomorrow... and, the sport would continue just fine. In fact, I happen to believe that a bunch of these programs WILL end, in my lifetime. They really can't keep up anymore. They're trying, by stealing revenue away from students and tax payers. Eventually, the paying public will demand an end to the waste. Even in the P5, there are a bunch of programs that don't really matter. They're just 'going along for the ride', like the Washington Generals. Somebody has to lose to the Globetrotters. They are TRYING to become significant. Some make it, eventually... as others who were at the top falter. If/when some insignificant college players go on to be NFL players, or coaches that have success, they become significant THEN, when they actually accomplish something of note. NOT when they toiled away in ignominy as a small college player.

Just to add.... It might shock you to know that I have cheered for smaller schools, at times. I lived near Lake Charles for 8 years and enjoyed watching McNeese State, even when they were bad. I understand how important such a program can be to the fans that support them. Big-Time, P5 college football could also end tomorrow, and have NO AFFECT on the sport, as THOSE fans know it. They really just aren't that related to one another. Apples and oranges.
I am not saying what I'm sayin to disrespect smaller programs. They have value, in their own way. But, they do NOT drive the fan interest, or BUSINESS of college football. And, I'm not willing to alter, in any dramatic way, the way the top level of the sport is run to accommodate the desires of the Idaho State or Cal Poly's of the world.

Oh yeah...well how about Slippery Rock ?.One of the best live games I remember was McNeese State at Delaware...way back before moving to Virginia. Most of the greatest coaches at the highest level of the sport...the HOFers come from your discarded places....the cerebral side of the sport

Watched ‘Working Girl” today... great line from that movie:
“Sometimes, in my house I dance around and sing in my underwear. But that don’t make me Madonna”.
