If that team doesn't get selected for the CFP it's fraud, and fixed ! CF fans and the people don't need this corruption. If excluded that needs to be decided by the Supreme Court. Those Chanticleers are #1 "by a lot". The rigged CFP must be overturned.

Something truly needs to be done about playoff inclusiveness
I would like to Coastal Carolina in the playoff. I think they deserve to be there
I'd also like to see the Big XII Champ in the playoff
The playoff needs to be more open. It can't be biased against teams that don't "sound" as big, or have as traditional a brandname
I really don't think Texas A&M should be in the playoff. They had their chance; give other teams and conferences a chance
If we are only selecting 4 teams, they really need to be conference champs as well. A team that doesn't make it's conference championship game or loses the game should NOT be in a 4 team playoff period.

The only team Nick Saban fears. Yes, he remembers being whipped by Northern Illinois at home.

A 4 team/3 game exhibition invitational event is perfectly fine for TV brand names only......just don't fraudulently call it a championship.

The only team Nick Saban fears. Fine put them in and have the Tide roll them by 28. Then we can stop talking about this silliness.

Coastal Carolina is a nice story. Had BYU gained another yard and a half the story would be dead and everyone would be saying the Cougars deserve a chance. Coastal has one win over a power 5 team - Kansas - who is winless. If you ranked the power 5 teams from 1-130, Alabama would be on top and Kansas would be at the bottom, they are that bad. The Jayhawks have lost 54 straight conference road games. They've lost their conference games this year by an average of 33 points per game and that includes a 3 point loss this past weekend. (Coastal beat them by 15) Coastal has wins over Louisiana (which did beat Iowa State) and the aforementioned, BYU. It would not be a pretty game if they were to play games against the truly elite teams. Sorry, but that's just how I see it. Depth, athletic ability, attrition all would play against them.
At the same time, I'd like to see an all inclusive playoff just to enjoy the 50-10 ass whippings the top seeded teams would administer in the first round of games. My guess is it would be quite similar to the #1 vs #16 record in the NCAA basketball tournament - 1 win for the #16's vs a whole damn bunch of losses.

I with using an unbiased rating system selecting the top 4 teams as long as it was agreed on by the masses prior to the season.
Here is the massey composite which includes about 100 different ranking systems including the 3 you mentioned.

You're right Doc about the 1 vs 16, But the one of them did win, and a number have been close to upsetting. And a number of 2's, 3's and 4's have lost to the lower seeds. And now one of those "teams that don't play anybody and would be wiped out in a REAL conference" is ranked #1 in the AP poll (Gonzaga). Until the G5 teams are given a chance to play for the title, we will never know if they can win it or not.

I don't see them going from 4 to 16 but I guess 4 to 8 is possible. Under that scenario I'd guess the five P5 conferences would get an automatic bid, they'd give a bid to the top team from the group of 5 (similar to the NY 6 bowls) and there would be 2 at large bids. So Coastal or UC or whoever would typically be the #8 seed and play the #1 seed - I just don't see that going well for the G5 team.

The Sun Belt dominated the Big XII, which I think rapidly improved throughout the season and is the most competitive P5 conference right now. Louisiana and App State have solid teams this year, and Coastal Carolina beat them both, along with undefeated BYU
Their schedule is better than Cincinnati's....
At some point the playoff needs to open up more. I think this would be a good year to put Cincinnati or CC in

I was never for the four team scenario. For all practical purposes we have a glorified version of the long suggested PLUS ONE.
Six or possibly Eight would make more sense. IMHO

You are astute enough enough, cpa, to know that expected one sided games happen but also 'shockers' happen. That's the essence and drama of competition and sport. The only way to really know is to let them play. Scoreboards decide real sports championships, not elections. How many P5 'brand name' teams might be "rolled" by Bama by 28 or more ?...maybe 85-90 % Think about that.
Stop the steal ! ....the CFP steal
