This last one that came out only moved Florida down 1 spot? Cincinnati is pushed back further, out of playoff range now. Florida lost to a pretty bad LSU team that managed to finally pull it together for a game...
The committee is a joke. I think the calls to open up the playoff will increase

Twitter consensus agrees. Seems they are keeping FLA higher to give safety net to Bama, again according to Twitter, in case FLA upsets Bama (won't happen). Also keeps A&M closer to the top as well. |

Using the committees own rankings
Coastal Carolina has 2 top 20 wins and 0 losses
Iowa State has 1 top 20 win and 2 losses. One of the losses was against Lousiana by double digits. Yep this is the same team that Coastal Carolina beat.
Iowa St ranked 6 and Coastal at 12
UGA has 0 wins against top 25 teams with 2 losses and both were blowouts
Florida has a win vs top 25 UGA but has 2 losses and one was really bad
Cincinnati has 0 wins against top 25 teams but 0 losses
The committee has always put a premium on losses especially bad ones. That rule has gone out the window this year.
If you look at the massey composite which averages out about 60 polls, it has Cincinnati #5 and Florida #13. That seems much more realistic to me. Until they get an unbiased way to measure these teams I will side with Hen regarding the legitimacy of this selection process

As long as humans are involved the standings are easily manipulated to provide credibility to their opinions. Having said that, the top 4 or 5 are pretty easy. After that, does it matter? Yes to the committee because they want the rankings to support their opinion of the top 4 teams. But let me ask this, if Coastal or Cincinnati played any of the top 5 teams on a neutral field who would you pick?

I would say , doc, that as long as humans are involved plus the TV revenue factor you'll get this terribly unfair manipulation.

But you didn’t answer my question - I agree with you about money and manipulation but who would you pick if Coastal or Cincinnati were to play any of the top five teams on a neutral field. |

I cannot stress this enough, TEAMS NEED TO KNOW WHERE THEY GO AFTER THE SEASON ENDS
Every other sport has a playoff picture that gives teams an idea of what is happening. If Pittsburgh goes 12-4 in the AFC, and they know they are the top seed, they KNOW they will get homefield advantage
In college football, the season ends and ALL the schools collectively hold their breath as a committee goes into a sealed closed off room and makes their opinionated picks. It is completely ridiculous
Why not just move the 4 team playoff after the bowls, that way you would get:
Rose Bowl (Big 10 vs. PAC 12) Ohio State vs. USC
Sugar Bowl (SEC vs. Big XII) Alabama vs. Iowa State
Orange Bowl (ACC vs. Top At-Large) Clemson vs. Notre Dame or Texas A&M
Peach Bowl
(Top G5 vs. Top remaining conference champ) Cincinnati vs. Coastal Carolina
Then match up the winners. There is your 4 team playoff. There are MANY, MANY different ways to do this. 8 team playoff, 16 team playoff, even a 6 team or 12 team playoff.
Can we not get the top teams playing each year? I don't want to hear people's opinions or eye tests or strength of schedule...blah blah blah
Let's get them on the field. That will solve ALL debate
I personally think Alabama or Clemson will win it all. But how awesome would it be to see Ohio State play USC or Cincinnati. Clemson play Coastal Carolina or Texas A&M???
Hell, if Oklahoma wins this weekend, they would be in the above playoff against Alabama!! That's worth watching IMO!!

More importantly, College Football should be inclusive of ALL teams playing. It is absolutely absurd for Cincinnati, Coastal Carolina, and the PAC 12 Champ to be left out.
Frankly, if I'm Cincinnati, USC, or Coastal Carolina, and I go undefeated, I'm hanging up a Championship banner much the way UCF did for 2017

Obviously, Bama, Clemson, and OSU would be heavily favored, ND a little less favored, so naturally I'd pick them straight up if had to.
