The more I think about this, under the right circumstances I think Clemson could lose and still make the playoff. The committee has positioned it that Clemson is the only team with 2 wins over current top 10 teams and that's not going to change over the weekend. Doc you said it here first, but I see more and more people on various message boards agree...The Cte. has positioned Bama and Clemson such that if they lose, they could both still remain in the top 4.
I don't believe a two-loss SEC Runner Up (Bama, with a loss to UF) gets in over a 2 loss PXII Champ (Stanford, if they beat USC). NO WAY!
A 1-loss Clemson ACC runner up MIGHT get in... if it's a "flukey" loss... ie: lots of turnovers, or a bad call... etc.

So what if Arkansas doesn't get the second biggest miracle of the year (the muffed punt at Michigan would be #1)and Mississippi recovers the 20 yard, blind, backward lateral. Mississippi would be playing Florida for the SEC championship. Absolutely nothing would be changed for Alabama - they'd still be 11-1 but not in the SEC championship game, not the west division champ, sitting at home this weekend. Do you think they'd still be the #2 in the rankings? I'm pretty sure they would be. So maybe the conference champion criteria isn't as big as we think. Ironic the two biggest fluke plays of the year have paved the way for 2 of the possible 4 playoff teams. Interesting question...I think they would be pretty high....but they also wouldn't be playing this week, and I think they would get jumped by the Big 10 Champ and Oklahoma.... IMO, the final rankings would look like this: 1. Clemson (assuming they win) 2. Big 10 Champ 3. Oklahoma 4.... it would come down to Alabama, Stanford, Ohio State, or maybe even Florida if they won the SEC.....Ohio State would still probably be the odd man out. How would the committee handle another Alabama dilemma, where they only lose once but don't win their conference? IMO, Florida would get in if they beat Ole Miss. If they lost, I could see Alabama getting in I think Florida has absolutely no chance of getting in. They were horrendous down the stretch and I think the committee could easily justify taking a Stanford, Carolina or OSU team if they somehow pull off the miracle.

not a chance....this isn't the BCS rankings. The committee isn't about to put conference champ losers into the playoff....

If somehow UNC can beat Clemson, the debate will boil down to which team deserves to be in the playoff...UNC or Ohio State. While I don't believe there is any way that UNC is one of the top 4 teams in nation based on how bad their schedule was, I also thought the Buckeyes' schedule was just as hideous.
If Ohio State were to make the playoffs over UNC in this scenario, then I would have to quantify that slap as saying the NFL East Champion cannot make the NFL playoffs because other teams in other division's were better. I like that the NCAA puts the premium on conference champions. Had Ohio State played a tougher schedule, I would be more open to hearing their agenda. But they didn't and everyone has ragged on their schedule since last summer.
Being a Florida State guy, we all knew their schedule was on the light side last year. If they had lost a game, they would have had no business being in a playoff discussion. I would say the same about Ohio State this year.

not a chance....this isn't the BCS rankings. The committee isn't about to put conference champ losers into the playoff.... At 538, they just said that Clemson still has nearly a 50/50 chance of making the playoff with one loss. Based on resume, the Cte might put Clemson ahead of the other 1-loss teams. At 12-1, what one loss team has a better resume?

None... I think they'll be voted in.
