One week remaining, and the standings are:
1) Clemson 2) Alabama 3) Oklahoma 4) Iowa 5) Michigan State 6) Ohio State
7) Stanford 8) Notre Dame 9) North Carolina
Looks to me as if the stage is set... the B1G CCG winner gets a ticket... Clemson/Bama may be assured win or lose...
I'll post a comment from a certified committee member in a few seconds... make sure you have a barf bag ready.

Is Iowa a better team than MSU, OSU, Stanford and Notre Dame or more deserving?

Is Iowa a better team than MSU, OSU, Stanford and Notre Dame or more deserving? They are undefeated... CLEARLY, they are more deserving... based on their record. They'll get a chance to prove on the field whether they are better than MSU.
All other comparisons are just conjecture. NO ONE KNOWS who is the "best team".... They can only be judged by their resume.

I think that you are probably right, in that it is likely that the committee ranked Iowa #4 because Iowa is considered to be more deserving. However, what you believe to not be possible is what the selection committee is actually supposed to do, i.e, to select the best four teams, rather than the most deserving. If you are correct, and I think that you are, then the committee has violated its prime directive:

That's why this Cartel-ESPN committee is only a little better than the past mythical systems. "Best" 4 teams just can't be selected with opinions. Only on field, head to head elimination competition with the scoreboard having the only 'vote' can do the job accurately. Every other team sport on Earth 'gets' this except big time exhibition CF.

You and Bevo are both correct, BH. That is why playoffs fields of 16 or more teams have worked so well for all other NCAA football divisions.
In fact, other than FBS football, that is the standard for all major team sports in all NCAA divisions.

Playing on the field is NOT a way of proving who the "Best Team" is... it's simply a matter of determining a clear "winner" in a competition that is fair to both sides.
Essentially, it's like you and I flipping a coin to decide who gets to shoot a free throw to win a game in the last second. You might be a LOT better Free Throw shooter, but... we flipped a coin and I won.

What NCAA sport, other than football, requires a week between competitions?

I'm not sure what that has to do with the price of a loaf of bread, Bevo.

Newspeak? That is a touch too Orwellian for me.

Do you know the price of a loaf of bread?
I makes a huge, logistical difference. When you can only play 1 game a week, the time required to conduct a large field tournament expands greatly. Basketball can handle 68 teams in 3 weeks... Football can only do 8 in the same time frame.
The lower football divisions are HAPPY to have a third of their season devoted to playoffs... why not? It's the only time most people care at all about what they're doing. It's not that way at the big schools. Their alums want a full schedule... and the schools want the ticket sales. There's a limit to how much time they're willing to devote to a nationwide tournament. Today? That limit is two weeks. MAYBE, they'll expand to three... but, I can't see any more than that. It's just not needed, nor desired by the schools that drive and control revenue.

You never heard of an "upset"?
If the 'Best Team" always won, sports would be pretty boring.
"Best Team" is a purely subjective concept, and thus... by definition, can ONLY be determined by opinion... or, by consensus of opinion.

Since P5 teams are incapable of handling the rigors of an inclusive playoff, would they object to the other FBS schools and the NCAA developing an inclusive FBS playoff system? Such a playoff would be in addition to the CFP. It would be open to all FBS teams, and each team selected would have the option to accept or to decline to participate. This seems to be a simple resolution that would be fair to all.

Your problem is with the CFP and its protocols, which place greatest emphasis on head-to-head competition, followed by games v. common opponents. Selection committee members are mandated to select the "best teams", and are obliged to follow the very protocols that you deem to prove nothing.
