Today is a historic day. It is the start of NIL in college athletics. It will kill college sports as we know it. Whether it will kill college sports all together or give us a better, more improved product, only time will tell.

How do you tell someone they can't sell their OWN autograph? The sport changed decades ago, as the money just continued to grow. You just can't have Universities earning BILLIONS of dollars, while the players who risk their health on every play, get peanuts. |

"The use of Clemson’s facilities and uniforms for NIL activity is not permitted."
So, people are going to pay big bucks for a pic of Trevor Lawrence standing in a field of sunflowers?

Miami business owner paying every player on the football team $500/mo.
To me, that should be deemed illegal. He doesn’t care about a individual’s NIL. He only cares about the team they play for. Which is a recruiting violation IMO. NIL is not supposed to be a private scholarship.
Gonna get messy fast.

As we've begun the NIL era, the decision to play minor league baseball over college sports isn’t quite as clear cut as it may have been at one point. Horror stories of living out of hotels, under payed players, and low quality meals have certainly shown that the road to show isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. I heard yesterday that 80% of the players selected in this years baseball draft were college players - that stat obviously supports your post. Plus, apparently the bonus baby money isn't nearly as lucrative as it used to be. When you pick a HS kid, you probably have at least 5 years before you can even think about him being able to contribute on the major league level. The Reds took Hunter Greene out of HS with their first pick in the 2017 draft and he's just now playing in AAA. (He also had to have Tommy John surgery). They took Jonathan India first in 2018 out of college and he's their leadoff hitter and second baseman - he actually has a shot at Rookie of the Year. So the extra seasoning in college has to help the players get to the league quicker upon being drafted. |

In basketball an elite athlete can go straight from high school to an NBA all star team
In football an athlete can play a couple of years of CF and become an NFL all pro.
In baseball an elite talent basically disappears for 3-5 years after high school or college, toiling in the various levels of the minors, before surfacing as a MLB rookie.
Makes me appreciate the most difficult skills to master among those three major team sports.

Bama’s QB already has 1 million in NIL endorsements,
He has not played a down or even been named the starter.
Some of these players will be making more than coaches.
Players with large social media followings = influencers.
Influencers on social media make a lot of money.
Ball State and similar programs may never get a 3 or 4 star player again. Is that extreme? Maybe.
