I really haven't had an opinion on this one way or the other. Usually when I hear "premier" jobs, I think Texas, Florida, Ohio State...even North Carolina has been said to have the right resources to compete.
As time goes on though, I think I would rank LSU pretty high. The talent level is there for someone to walk right in and compete immediately. The pay will be high. The last 20 years has turned LSU into a top program year in year out. Even in off years, they are still beating the Georgias and Floridas in the SEC...not too shabby. The fanbase is there, and school support is there.
20 years ago, I would say no. Today I would say absolutely. Nick Saban built the foundation, and Les Miles and Ed Orgeron have been able to win National Championships there. LSU is a prime position.

It's a top ten job for sure - as you said, the last 3 LSU coaches all won NC's while there. I think the AD will try to make a huge splash by trying to lure a big name from their existing job - similar to what he did when hiring Kim Mulkey as the women's basketball coach. James Franklin could be a good fit - he's already coached in the SEC and won at Vandy - imagine the possibilities with all the advantages he'd have at LSU. Of course the LSU fans would have to expect the game or 2 where his poor game management snatches defeat from the jaws of victory.
Having said this, I think if I was being courted for the LSU and USC job I'd head out west to California. You have a fertile recruiting ground and the competition isn't as fierce. Keep the top California kids in California and you can compete for sure. At LSU you have to deal with Alabama every year. USC should be the bell cow of the PAC 12. It would be difficult to F that up but yet, every coach since Pete Carroll has.

Agree with Doc, in the Top 10. TONS of talent in Louisiana and Texas. And, a RABID fan base. The problem, they're SO crazy, it's hard for anyone to stay there more than 4-5 years.
