I keep seeing the “high expectations at VT” being an argument against Beamer going to VT. He’s at an SEC school with much higher expectations than VT. He would at least get the time to build at VT because of the Beamer name.
OTOH, VT may be a better opportunity in some ways at the moment, but it would be awfully hard to live in his dad’s shadow in Bburg. Think he would always be “Frank’s son” to an extent.

good points, cpa
If we can't get Bill Belichick, Mike Tomlin, Urban Meyer, Dabo Swinney, Nick Saban, Mario Cristobal or Jimbo Fisher we might as well bring Shane back home to the mountains.
The VT people are looking hard at the Coastal Carolina and Wake HCs too.

No VT should go after Matt Campbell

IMO, the key to restoring the Hokies to prominence is gaining recruiting control of the speed rich Tidewater area of Virginia. Those 'blurs', as Frank Beamer used to call them, are going all over the country now and UVA has now even been a greater force recruiting that area...(Norfolk. Portsmouth, Hampton, Newport News, Virginia Beach etc.) Frank built a protective wall around those speed farms. All these coaches can coach. It's very common common knowledge that RECRUITING is over 90 % of big time college aged football success these days. How many head coaches out there would have spectacular records if every single time they took the field they had a superior recruited roster than their opponent like Saban has ?? It would actually take a mediocre HC to mess that advantage up. Also, think what guys like David Shaw would be capable of if they were permitted to recruit dumb guys ??!!! Recruiting and academic standards determine everything.

Recruiting and academic standards determine everything. Yep, the Tidewater area has always been a highly-concentrated area for recruiting. JR Reid, the Vicks, Iverson, Boyd, Lawrence Taylor, Bruce SMith, Dwight Stephenson, Mourning, Kenny Easley, DJ Dozier and Many more. Speaking of academic standards, after the ACC implemented its higher standards in 1960, Clemson proceeded to go 1-19-1 against the SEC in the 1960s and 3-12 in the 1970s.
