Just checking in to give a shoutout to Cinci for becoming the first "G5" school to make the CFP.
I believe one of Blue Hen's "rules" was that a school of a non BCS / non P5 conference was not allowed to make the CFP.
Congrats to the Bearcats!

In a related story, pigs were reportedly flying in western Virginia last weekend.
Merry Christmas, GG!

In a related story, pigs were reportedly flying in western Virginia last weekend. Merry Christmas, GG! Ironically, the flying pig is a long standing thing in Cincinnati. At our Bicentennial Commons they have flying pigs all over the place as a reminder of the cities recognition as Porkopolis back in the 1800's - I believe it was a big place for slaughterhouses. As a result the Cincinnati Marathon is called The Flying Pig Marathon. So, in retrospect I gues it was inevitable that Cincinnati would be the first G5 to moake it....

There was never any rule preventing it. The path, perhaps as biased as it was / is, was always there. No G5 team ever made it far enough down the path.

I believe TCU and/or Boise State and/or Cinci a while back would have qualified for a four-team playoff if we had it at the time. This was the 2008-2011 time period, I forget which exact years.

Since BYU's mythical national championship in 1984 I believe 04 and 08 Utah (MWC) were probably among the 4 strongest teams as were 2006 and 2009 Boise State and, of course, 2017 UCF. And going back to 1999 that Marshall team was loaded. I think all these, so called, G5 teams may have been stronger than this 21 Cincy team

Good thing they doubled the two-team BCS to the current four-team CFP. Doubling again to eight teams would be even better.

Yes, definitely better ....double that to 16 (where all conferences get an opportunity) still best, imo.

Let's see how eight (the next step) works first. I don't think a 12-0 team from any conference would be left out of an eight teamer. Cinci finished #4 this season. There are definitely some cons to a 16-team format so if eight gets the job done, I would rather stick with eight.

So what inspired you to start posting again ? It's good. If all conferences are eligible to compete it's less mythical because standings and/or conf champ games results are not 'opinionated'. With 8 everything will still be opinionated to fill the playoff field, thus still mythical.

So what inspired you to start posting again ? It's good. Recently sold my business, so had a little extra time on my hands. And Cinci made the playoff which is pretty neat.

With 8 everything will still be opinionated to fill the playoff field, thus still mythical. But all conferences ARE eligible for the cfp, as Cincinnati proved this year. And eight would double their odds. We all know that nobody is giving autobids to the MAC or Sunbelt so that’s the best we can hope for in our lifetime.
