Don't forget that competitiveness likely would improve (over time - not just the 11 minutes of FB between Bama and Cincy) if there was equal opportunity

Common knowledge Bevo. If Bama doesn't absolutely crush Cincy it should be embarrassed.

Don't forget that competitiveness likely would improve (over time - not just the 11 minutes of FB between Bama and Cincy) if there was equal opportunity Exactly. Equal opportunity to the playoff would help make the game more competitive. But that isn’t the goal. The goal is for it to be SEC teams only, where the fans are too dumb to realize they are watching more advertisements than game.

Nil, portal, coaching defections....sure it's a mess but I still say the academic fraud side of big time CF is the most deplorable. 20 members of the Ohio State football team graduated yesterday including first team All American selections for this year, Chris Olave and Nicholas Petit-Frere. I’m pretty sure Thayer Munford has already graduated. They aren’t all lunkheads and most of them that don’t graduate move on to the NFL where they’ll become the highest paid member of their respective classes, by a long shot.

We had a system where the coach could quit one day and be coaching somewhere else the next, while players were sitting out for 20 months because they wanted to transfer. Coaches were paid millions but players couldn’t even use their own name to get a chicken sandwich? Now is better for the athletes, which is what college football is all about. I'm fine with the players getting money from the NIL. I've always thought it was nuts to have the PLAYERS be the ONLY people not getting rich from this game. But, I do think they need to change the way these portal transfers are happening. It's SO EASY now, it's impacting the quality of the game. I'm not sure what the right answer is, but... it needs to be a little tougher to swap schools. Make it harder for the coaches too, if that's needed. But,we need more stability. I think the NIL and the portal both have huge impacts on the game as we know it and I think it will lead to the end of the bowl era and a transformation of the CFI to a true CFP. I see three very significant factors in play. 1) Before it was an anomaly when a player to opt out of the Bowl Game and start preparations for the NFL draft. For those teams in the other bowl games, it is almost a certainty that there will be players choosing to opt out. With each passing year the numbers seem to grow and grow. 2) Now with the transfer portal open year round players jump from team to team at moments notice. What we are seeing now is 90% transfers happen in the months of November and December. We have also seen in many cases where these players are significant contributors which includes several starting QB's as well. 3) Now with the NIL in play where do you see many of these 5 stars going? Most likely to the places where you can get the most NIL dollars. Look for the rich to get richer and when that Linebacker from Tennessee has a break out year, look for Ohio State or Alabama to welcome them with open arms, a starting job, and much more impressive bank account. All these things will lead to teams becoming more and more depleted during the bowl exhibition season. Before there used to be a significant amount of chest pumping based on how a conference performs but now that point is mute because these performances are written because of roster impacts. All of these factors will lead to less and less interest in the bowl season. I'll tune into the CFP games and will watch my Buckeyes but other than that I don't expect to tune in unless I have nothing better to do.

It doesn't cost THAT much to host a bowl game. If you get 5-10,000 homer ticket sales... a couple thousand local attendees, and a minimal TV contract, they make money. It might not be a HUGE a business as it used to be, but... they'll still be around... like cockroaches.

You really shouldn't be so hard on yourself. YouTube let’s me watch the games for free while skipping commercials. Enjoy it while you can. Anything THAT good will be squashed, eventually. I used to LOVE having a 10' satellite dish in my back yard in 1991. EVERYTHING was free. All the HBO and Cinemax channels... NFL Sunday Ticket when it first started. It didn't last.

Other than the formulated News Years games these games are just intended to be ESPN television programs and ESPN concocts all but a few of them. There's a TV market out there of people that like to gamble on sports and these things fill their needs and will yield higher ratings than darts or poker for ESPN. Saying he better whisper it since working for ESPN this is what Finebaum said a few days ago when asked about the glut of PSEGs.

I can see some appeal to the gamblers but who wants to put money on a game when there is in many cases little motivation and then deal with players who may or may not decide they want to play in the game.
