The committee was really bailed out this season without much controversy. They had four P5 conference champs with 0 or 1 loss with the other P5 conference champ (Stanford) and Notre Dame each finish with 2 losses. Not much complaining or chaos. But what if Stanford had not driven for a late game winning FG against Notre Dame? Notre Dame would have finished 11-1, same as Oklahoma. Who would have been the 4th playoff participant? If still Oklahoma, does that make Notre Dame reconsider their status as an Independent and do they more seriously consider joining the ACC in football? If Notre Dame got in over Oklahoma, does the Big 12 force expansion to bring back their conference title game or is that the final straw for Oklahoma and do they look to leave the Big 12? And what if Stanford had only lost 1 game? As a 12-1 PAC 12 Champ, they certainly would have been in and the same questions above would apply to Notre Dame and/or Oklahoma had they gotten left out. I wish we could have seen what would have happened had any of these scenarios played out. I guess we'll have to wait another year.

The more chaotic "what if's " the better.....as far as moving toward a legitimate FBS national championship.

That's exactly what I said when Notre Dame lost.... That it really made the committee's job easy.
I think, OU would have been led out..... And they would have used Texas (common opponent) as the reason.
And, yea.... That might well have prompted OU to jump somewhere.

Stanford lost to Northwestern early, hurt bad ?? Yep....
And still, a HAIL MOTHER MARY, backwards lateral for 20 yards.... without looking... on a 4th and 35 play also saved this committee from making a TOUGH choice.
freakish

I would have had either jump Oklahoma if they finished with one loss.

I don't think ND would jump Oklahoma because winning a conference weighs heavy with the committee. Oklahoma gets the first advantage with a Conference Championship. Oklahoma slightly higher SOS per SAGARIN. ND only the fourth.

If Notre Dame beats Stanford they are in because of much tougher schedule than Oklahoma. ND's loss is to unbeaten on the road by last minute FG. If Stanford has one loss(there second loss came against Oregon with Vernon Adams back) they are in because of tougher schedule. the B12 will always be the odd man out until they get a championship game

As of Saturday Sagarin had SOS Oklahoma-19 and ND-21.
Slight edge to Oklahoma.
The only team in the nation that beat more top 30 teams than Oklahoma was Alabama.

Number one on the list.

OU was definitely playing better down the stretch. They deserved to be selected. But, who knows how many good Catholics are on the committee? ?

Yep, just a mental exercise. Christmas shopping today. I enjoy it. I'm in Houston, meeting with an important purchasing agent for our biggest customer. There are worse things I could be doing,but.... I'd rather be Christmas shopping.
