That was probably the best weekend of NFL football I've witnessed in a long time. And every team that played earned their way in, they weren't invited by a committee.
Bengals/Titans - As a Bengal fan I obviously enjoyed this one. I'll say this, Joe Burrow is one tough SOB - 9 sacks and he never blinked. If he was on the other sideline the Titans would have won by double digits. And Evan McPherson is an amazing weapon, if Cincinnati can get it to the 40 yard line they have a great chance of scoring at least 3 points. He has 7 playoff FG's in 2 games and I think 3 are over 50 yards...and he's a rookie.
Really happy for the Bengals and our city - it's been a long time since Cincinnati has even won a playoff game - they had never won a road playoff game - regardless of what happens next week I think the days of being an NFL punchline are over. Mike Brown - look at the enthusiasm and joy this team has brought to the city, do the right thing, get Joe Burrow some competent linemen and lets have some fun the next 10 years.
49ers/Packers - I had a feeling the 49ers would take this one, they are just a resilient group and Green Bay has a way of turning all the advantages into an epic failure. Rogers can't blame anyone but himself - didn't even have a TD pass. And through the efforts to replace their QB - even drafting a guy in the top 10 - look who's taking the Niners to the championship game.
Rams/Buccaneers - I was ready to puke when Tampa Bay tied it up - thankfully the Bucs decided to not cover Coop Kupp on the final drive. I also hope Brady got the hummer from Collinsworth that he must have promised given the 4 quarter BJ the former Bengal laid on the GOAT yesterday. Good lord, the only reason Tampa Bay was in the game was Akers inability to hold onto the ball. The Bus should have lost by 14-17 points. And despite the long TD pass to Evans, Brady was pretty bad. If he comes back next season you'll see a similar ending to what we saw with Roethlisberger. Mark it down.
Bills/Chiefs - One of the best games I've seen in a long time with 2 QB's laying it all on the line to advance. A lot will be said about the bogus OT rules but the Bills had it - 13 seconds left and a 3 point lead. You can't blow that. Just kick the ball so it's returnable and the Chiefs would have had to resort to a Hail Mary and trickery. They had no TO's - defend the perimeters!! Absolutely stunning that Buffalo blew that with 13 seconds to play. Give Mahommes credit - he didn't flinch. Just an unbelievable game.
I'm a Bengals fan so obviously I hope they have another miracle left in them but it the Chiefs play like they did yesterday it may be a long day in KC. A couple other notes...
Only 3 teams in the history of the NFL have gone to 3 consecutive Super Bowls; the Dolphins, Bills and Patriots - KC will be trying to become the fourth.
The Bengals have played in 2 Super Bowls. Their opponent in those games? The San Francisco 49ers.
SF has beaten the Rams 6 straight times including the final week of the regular season to even make the playoffs.
The Browns need to move on from Baker Mayfield - obviously Odell Beckham Jr. wasn't the problem.
