Confession : I just can't get excited about basketball...at any level. Something about the structure of the game itself just doesn't excite me although I appreciate the athletic skills. I'm a hockey ignoramus too. It's baseball season !

My confession; I DESPISE baseball and was really hoping it would die this year.

Yep, all the assorted gazillionairs came to agreement and MLB will play a full 162 game season starting in April. I'll try to keep you posted on your favorite sport, Bevo.
Do you despise college baseball, Bevo ?...considering the Texas historic success

I'm not sure how closely I'll follow baseball this season. The Reds have already dumped half their team and will resemble a AAA squad this year. They were a fun team to watch last year but their bullpen killed them. I don't think they've done anything to upgrade the bullpen, traded one of their most consistent starters and got rid of their 2 All Stars from 2021. Hen, your going to like Castellanos on the Phillies - the guy is an RBI, Doubles machine.

There was a time when I liked basketball better than football. The three point line changed everything. Defense and rebounding seem to happen more often by accident than on purpose. Fundamentals are so far removed from today's game that I struggle to watch at all.

The best coaches seem to identify officiating styles and adjust their game plans early and accordingly. Officiatong certainly varies crew by crew. Basketball is probably the toughest sport to officiate.
And Bevo, I love softball too and the WCWS, just like the CWS, is among my favorite events. Both know that playing is better than voting.

So Hen. We both agree that "playing is better than voting". But, I ask you: Which is the better way to determine a Champion? 1) Playing an entire season, with round robin home and away games? or 2) A single-elimination tournament? Personally, I think #1 is better. Especially, for basketball. You know, in the NBA, they play a SERIES, not a single game. Lots of luck involved in one 40-minute snapshot of play. I think: Regular Season conference champs should be recognized as the CHAMPION. Tournaments should just be exhibitions, and last chance for teams to make the "big show"

I agree with you, Bevo, about regular season champs having more value. There are 350 + D1 basketball programs , 32 D1 conferences and 32 conferences champions , therefore, nothing NBA related could ever remotely work for NCAA college basketball.

Kind of sounds like the same logic I use as to why football playoffs can’t be the same as the NFL?

NFL features 8 divisions and 8 champions NCAA D1A football features 10 divisions and 10 champs
The main thing CF can learn from the NFL is NO NEED FOR SOME GOOFY CONFERENCE ROOM VOTING COMMITTEE

The NFL features 8 very small divisions that are fairly well balanced in salary cap, access to players, and income. The NCAA D1 football has two distinct groups of 5 Divisions, all of which are huge in comparison to the NFL. These groups have large differences in budgets, facilities, fan base, and player access. Even among the Top group of 5, there are two Divisions that stand apart from the rest in terms of money and players. All Division have different power structures and goals. And, there is NO unifying force that governs them all. It's not apples and oranges, it's apples and softballs... not even the same kinds of things.

Bevo, there are no NCAA 'P5' or 'G5' divisions for football, just D1A(FBS), D1AA(FCS), DII and DIII. Those categories were made up as a result of greed and outside of the governing body of the sport. They are strickly renegade in nature. If they weren't made up with programs and conferences being stigmatized as 'second class' perhaps there would be opportunities for a more level playing field ? FBS college aged football remains the only college sport in which the 'so called' championship is not administered by the governing body of the sport. I'm still in favor of the super rich guys seceding from the NCAA and forming their own fully professional sports league with no pretenses at all of offering some kind of amateur 'college' sport.
