Reds team (in my lifetime as a fan - starting around 1968).
1B - Nominees are Tony Perez and Joey Votto. Votto has an MVP award but Perez is in the HOF - Perez is the pick.
2B - Nominees are Joe Morgan and Brandon Phillips - Phillips was a magician with the glove but he didn't win 2 MVP's and wont be a first ballot HOFer, he's not a HOFer period. Joe Morgan gets the nod.
SS - Barry Larkin or Dave Concepcion. Concepcion should be in the HOF but he's not - Larkin is, Larkin is the pick.
3B - Pete Rose, Buddy Bell or Scott Rolen - it can't be anybody but Rose. His move to 3B was the final pice to the Reds winning back to back championships in the mid 70's. He's also the all time hits king, despite being a pretty sad human being.
C - Johnny Bench. There isn't even anyone close.
OF - George Foster, Ken Griffey Jr and Sr, Dave Parker, Eric Davis are the names who stick out.
Foster had one of the greatest seasons in Reds history with a .320 avg, 52 HR's and 149 RBI in 1977. Parker should have won the '85 MVP. Eric Davis was a 5 tool player, Ken Griffey Jr. was a first ballot, alost unanimous HOFer. This one is tough. I'll cheat a bit and allow for a DH since it starts in the NL this year...LF Foster, CF Davis, RF Parker, DH Griffey Jr.
Starting Pitchers - The Reds haven't been the best at cultivating pitching but I'd go with this 5....
Tom Seaver, Mario Soto, Jose Rijo, Don Gullett and Trevor Bauer (only Cy Young winner in Reds history. )
RP - Aroldis Chapman, John Franco, Jeff Brantley and Randy Myers.
Not a bad squad, indeed.
