In my opinion mCFP made a huge mistake with moving the dates of the mythical playoff games from first original day of New Years day to whatever day they could fit in around the NFL schedule and the Sugar and Rose Bowl. If they want to knock the ratings out of the park then these games should be played on January 1st every year.
A big part of moving it from January 1st is that because of tradition the Rose Bowl had to be played at 5 and the Sugar Bowl would be followed at 8. Apparently the powers of the NFL are too much that they now are moving the Sugar Bowl time slot. I say time to boot the Rose Bowl from there slot as well. Regarding the Rose Bowl, I don't see any need to play it on the same day. If you go to the Rose Bowl Parade then to the game you are geting a 4 AM wake up call to get to where you need to be then hit the parade then 10 hours after your wake up call the game begins. Now reason the parade and game can't be on 2 different days.

Traditional when Jan. 1 falls on Sunday, the New Year's Day games have been played on Monday, some on Saturday. I remember back in my youth that the Sugar Bowl was played on the 31st and the 8 pm New Year's game was the Orange Bowl, due the great halftime show. But I agree, the CFP semi should be New Year's day, and the Rose and Sugar should adjust their schedule. But also, college football does not want to go head to head against the NFL.

I remember watching the Sugar Bowl back in the early 70's on New Year's Eve, it was most likely 1973. ND was playing Alabama and I was rooting for a tie so an Ohio State win over USC in the Rose Bowl might give them the edge at finishing Number 1. the Buckeyes tied Michigan 10-10 in the final game of the season which was the only blemish on their record. I think their defense only allowed 64 points all season and 31 of those points were against Michigan and USC. Anyway, ND wound up beating Bama 24-23 which eliminated Ohio State from the NC race even though I do recall they got a few votes. I remember the next SI headline had ND on the cover and the cation was something like #1 by the #1....

Couldn't get a stop on 3rd and 10 from near the goal line with time running out...xtra, xtra read all about it - it was quite a game... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1973_Sugar_Bowl#:~:text=Underdog%20Notre%20Dame%20won%2024,college%20football%20games%20in%20history.

Let's not forget this one www.youtube.com/watch?v=ApvCe2iuO7oClemson would have been down 16-0 but the strips gifted this one to Clemson who went down and scored a TD. Strips clearly won this game. Still one of the top 3 losses 1996,1998,and 2016 Number 4 may be 1975 Rose Bowl although I was only 10 at the time and did not quite have the same passion back then

Still one of the top 3 losses 1996,1998,and 2016 Number 4 may be 1975 Rose Bowl although I was only 10 at the time and did not quite have the same passion back then As the rule is interpreted - they had to call targeting, I'll give them that one. The funny thing is, check out #73 blocking Chase Young - clearly hands to the facemask, as clear as mud...not called. They even reviewed for targeting and had to see the hands to the facemask - I guess that's not reviewable. That's where all this replay crap is BS. You can review one thing but not another. And....they really need to differentiate between a blatant target and something that becomes targeting based on the way players react to impending contact. It definitely was a monumental play in the game. OSU lost a close games to USC in the 75 Rose Bowl, I don't recall any controversy. The '76 Rose Bowl loss was worse because it cost them the NC and they had destroyed UCLA earlier in the season. They just fell flat - nothing controversial, they got outplayed by a team they destroyed 2 months earlier.
