Horns are IN after an exciting series against ECU. Longhorn athletic programs, overall, are having a really nice run in the past year. Now, if the football program could just join the party, I'd be very excited!

It would be an entire different CWS field if 'voting' was the determinant of who gets to compete and who doesn't. Only one segment of one college sport does it that way. I still prefer post season playing/eliminating over voting....as all other college sports do. ....Heck, as all other amateur and pro team sports do. Anyway, with the Tennessee monster sent packing (by a team with class) I think this championship is wide open. Should be dramatic.

Speaking of Baseball :On a facebook baseball thread I responded that although MLB's greatest catcher was probably Johnny Bench, professional Baseball's greatest was probably Josh Gibson.......and I got a 'like' response from Johnny , himself !

I gotta say, that’s pretty cool. I never saw Josh Gibson play but was lucky enough to see Johnny play his entire career, being a Reds fan. He was a gem for sure but he also played in one of the greatest line-ups of all time.

I meant to add, I’m rooting for anyone BUT Notre Dame. And I’ll add their all blue uniforms are ridiculously hideous.

Well. THAT's pretty cool! Good thing he's not like Pete Rose. You might have gotten hacked and beaten!

Of the starting 8 on that team with the exception of Pete Rose I think they were all pretty much class act. 2 of my favorites were Tony Perez largely because we had the same first name and Dave Concepcion as SS was my favorite position. Baseball was probably my best sport growing up (soccer was the other). In HS I broke my leg before the start of Baseball Season then then next year I broke my arm. (Both times playing backyard football.) I ended playing baseball in the Rec leagues as they did not start til summer. I always wondered how it would have played out if I got the chance to play. Pretty sure Doc would have been my coach if that happened. Pretty small world.

This is my shocked face: I grew up an Astros fan. But, even I had to admire the success of the Big Red Machine. It was a once-in-a-lifetime assembly of talent. I thought it at the time. It's certainly turned out to be true. For the record, I still like Pete Rose. As far as I have heard, he NEVER bet on his own team to lose. That's the only thing that would turn me against him. What I saw was, a BALLER! I was never athletic enough to be really good at anything. I guess tennis was my best. But, the coach (who was a Longhorn) wouldn't pick me for the HS team, even though I consistently beat half the people ON his team... because, I didn't LOOK like a tennis player.

The AJ is Anthony Joseph. The Buckeye part speaks for itself. Did you show up for Tennis tryouts with a cutoff t shirt and jean shorts? If so I would have picked you just for entertainment purposes. Pete was an awesome competitor no doubt about it. But not quite the family man. I remember one story when he was on the road he was going at it with some chick and his wife Linda calls. But that did stop old Petey from completing the task at hand as he got pissed at his wife for calling.

But that did stop old Petey from completing the task at hand as he got pissed at his wife for calling. LOL Pete must not have been married to an Italian woman! Hmmm... No. I had decent clothing. I was just a little bit heavier than most of the other tennis players. But, good grief man... I played 6+ hours a day, ALL SUMMER, south of Houston.... It's not I was hugely fat or out of shape. I went back and looked at the team. There were 10 boys on the team. There was only one I had never beaten. Two more that beat me more often that I beat them. Three more that I beat more often they beat me. And four guys that I could smoke with one hand tied behind my back. I could beat any of the women.. (And was dating one of them). In hindsight, it seems clear that Coach Daniels just didn't like me for some reason? He was a big Longhorn fan, and so was I. I don't recall ever having any run-in with him? It's a mystery. Our High School reunion is coming up in August. I think I'm going to ask some questions. In my Freshman year of college, at the local Jr. College, I made the tennis team and played with a couple of the best from our HS team. I wasn't the best. But, I also wasn't the worst. Now, I'm thinking of trying pickle ball.

Oh my! Texas is in a bracket that includes OU, A&M, and Notre Dame! It's a trifecta of our 3 MOST HATED teams. How sweet would it be to come out of this group a winner!
