Spent the entire day at Wimbledon yesterday. In person, live. It was the fulfillment of a life-long dream. It was everything I’d hoped to see. We had great seats to see three matches on Court 2. Then we snuck into Center Court to watch one more. We watched the Nadal match sitting on The Hill, drinking champagne and eating strawberries. Just the best day ever.
We’ve been in London for almost a week. Heading to York tomorrow, then Edingburg on Tuesday. Will be playing golf at GlenEagles and then visiting St. Andrews on Wednesday. I’m getting a little worried about running out of “bucket list” items. :-)

Wow, what's next on the world sports tour ? Not sure. Need to survive this one first. The golf course has NO “buggies”. (Carts) I haven’t walked 18 holes in 18 years. 😬 what could possibly go wrong ? I’ve been practicing. But, if you don’t hear from me in a while, you’ll know I went out of bounds. I would like, someday, to go to the US Open Tennis tourney… and to see some horse races at Saratoga. I’ve always heard that’s one of the nicest tracks in America.

Taking my wife and daughter over a week early for a vacation. Neither of them have been to England so will need to get an agenda for the week. Thinking of a tour to Stonehenge. Ride the hope on and off bus for a day just to get to see the city. May do a day trip to Paris. Let me know if you have any other thoughts on what to do or go see.

I've done the day trip to Paris from London. Take an early train from St. Pancras to Gare Du Nord. You'll have time to take hop-on/hop-off bus around Paris. Take a late train back to London. Eurostar is pretty cool.

We went to a little coffee shop where William and Kate met. We really enjoyed our stay in Edinburgh - we hung out at the pubs directly below the castle - I believe one was called the White Hare and another was The Last Drop - there’s a pretty interesting story behind that name!

Thanks for the tips. St Andrews sounds awesome but may not be on the agenda due to proximity. The day trip to paris seems like a winner.

I saw your note while we were in York and have been meaning to respond. Hope it's not too late. I can tell you what our experiences were. I'm not sure how old your daughter is, but... we REALLY enjoyed watching "Pretty Woman; The Musical" The Sunday matinee show was not super expensive. The music was great and the production was outstanding. It's at the Savoy theater, next to Trafalgar Square, which is a really cool place to walk around. The show has no nudity, or really even bad words... but, it does follow the movie story line precisely... so, might not be super-appropriate for really younger kids. Other than Wimbledon (Which, is obviously over), the thing we enjoyed the best was the Tower of London tour. We paid~ $100 each to have a "private tour", which basically means you get to go in 2 hours before the general public, so you miss a lot of the crowds. It seemed like a lot of money, but we thought it was worth it. It's a 4 hour tour, and includes a pass to London Bridge. You get to see the Crown Jewels. We went to the British Museum, which... is FREE! But, you should try to arrive early. The lines get long. It was OK... the Rosetta Stone was cool to see. But, we wouldn't do it again. We've been to museums in Greece. It's all OLD STUFF. It's a testimony to all the cool stuff England has plundered from around the world. If we had it to do over again, we might go to the V&A (Victoria and Albert) museum. It's more about Britain. You should DEFINITELY find time to visit Buckingham Palace. Not a tour, just... the walk around out front. Hyde Park, St. James Park, the Mall.... they all come together there. It's quintessential London, and cool to walk around and see all the people. Wear comfortable shoes!!! Another cool, and very inexpensive thing to do was: Take a boat ride from Westminster to Greenwich Village. The round trip ride was, I think $20? They give you a tour, and you see a lot. Greenwich is a cool little town. Nice shopping, cheap food... the Cutty Sark is there, and of course... it's the home of the Prime Meridian. ie" Longitude 0.0 It's a good half day, at least. But, was a neat way to see London. The tubes are easy to use, and can take you just about anywhere. The BEST say to use them is... make sure you have a credit card with "touchless" tap & pay. We'd never used it before. It's cheaper and easier. 1/3 the price of buying tickets. I think Apple Pay works too. But, you need one of them, for sure... One last tip. Maybe you have your flights already. If not, you might want to consider flying into Birmingham. Heathrow is a freaking disaster right now. Don't plan ANY short turnarounds there. Hope you have a great trip. You'll be really close to Stonehenge. I wanted to go there. Let me know how it is.

Great info. Thanks!!!! When I went to NY for the first time it took me a day to figure out the subway but after that getting anywhere was a breeze. The only thing sent for now is doing the hop on hop off bus for a day early on just to see the city and are doing a day trip to Stonehenge. Tiger suggested a day trip to Paris but not sure if that is going to happen. That would likely be a $1000 day and we decided we would be better off just soaking in London while we are there. Towers of London, Boat Trip and Buckingham palace seem like good fits. I'll mention it to my wife as she is working with someone familiar with London that is setting up an itinerary for us. My daughter is 20 so she would be good to go for the musical. My son will be turning 24 but unfortunately he can get off work at the moment.
