What can I say ? I thought we played our best. Today, it still wasn’t good enough. Real Champions find a way .. no matter what.
When Ewers got hurt, I was concerned and disappointed, but I still had confidence in Hudson. When Card got hurt, I just couldn’t imagine winning this game, with no offense. I never, ever felt safe.
It was disappointing to see the MANY officiating blunders. They were costly. The defensive play in the end zone on Texas’ first drive was as obvious a PI call as I’ve ever seen. No call. I figured then, we were in trouble.
The 91 yard TD that Bama had in the first quarter was made possible by an obvious hold on the edge. Most refs look for that. Many call it when it isn’t even holding. Our little freshman corner had NO chance to turn the play inside because his arms were being held tight. Another very bad no-call.
The safety ? We’ll, that was so badly screwed up, it’s hard to comment on. In the end, I think they actually got the call right, except for one thing: Bryce’s pass didn’t get out of the end zone. By rule, that’s a safety. I think the refs were so flustered by all the other nonsense, they didn’t even think to look at it.
Missing the Chip shot FG was obviously a heart breaker. Frankly, I was leaning toward going for the TD. But, it was a tough call. I thought Saban made the WRONG call in not attempting a FG at the end. I couldn’t see any chance that Texas would score a TD on Bama at that point. But, a FG? Maybe.
Despite all the MANY penalties called on Bama, it was the ones that weren’t called that made the difference. Even on the missed tackle on Bryce that COULD have won the game for Texas, our #18 was being held. He could have taken Bryce down while he was off balance. He had no chance.
Bama played sloppy. Bryce was incredible. Gary Patterson had a basket full of blitzes ready that no one has ever seen from Texas. I’m sure Bama was bothered by that.
And, oh… Bill O’Brien flat out sucked .
Bama showed very little class at the end of the game. I won’t be rooting for them as long as they have O’Brien on the staff.
I had $50 on the M/L bet at 7-1. But, I had substantially more than that with the 20.5 points. So, I’m generally happy. We played like Champs today. I hope the team doesn’t have a let down after this.
