With the Big 10 and SEC becoming true superconferences, I think the best of the PAC 12 and Big XII should merge and become a true #3 conference. They still won't make as much money as the Big 10 and SEC, but a merged PAC 12 and Big XII would be a true western conference and a solid #3
Either the PAC 12 should add the beef from the Big XII, such as Kansas, K-State, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas Tech, and Baylor, OR...
The Big XII should go after: A) Oregon and Washington B) the four corners schools (Arizona, AZ St., Utah, and Colorado) C) Oregon & Washington plus the Arizona schools
D) Both Options A & B
JMO, but the Big XII is the top conference this year. It's really a stacked conference top to bottom, with even Kansas being competitive at points during the season. One solidified "western" conference would be extremely fun to watch. Oregon and Washington could sort of replace Texas and Oklahoma. The four corners schools fit right in to the Big XII.
The PAC 12 adding Big XII schools would be the cleaner option, but I think the Big XII will be making more money after the TV negotiations, and I think there is still some academic snobbery with PAC 12 institutions; they still see themselves as superior to the Big XII schools. So, I think the Big XII adding PAC 12 schools is more likely, especially as schools like Arizona getting ancy, seeing a dwindling PAC 12 along with the possibility of the Big 10 adding more PAC 12 teams.

I agree that the better scenario for both conferences would have been the 10 PAC schools sort of merging with the best 6-8 schools from the Big 12 to form a 16-18 team league and solidify itself as the #3 conference. However the Big 12 just announced a six-year extension with ESPN and FOX.
The PAC is currently in open market for a new TV deal, rumored to be some combination of ESPN and...Amazon Prime Streaming? The longer the PAC goes without announcing a new TV deal, the more the rumors of the Big Ten taking more schools will run. The Big Ten can basically end the PAC by adding Washington, Oregon, Stanford, maybe Cal to get to 20 teams. That would give them a western division / pod along with USC and UCLA to help with scheduling / travel. That would lead to the Big 12 adding Arizona, ASU, Colorado, and Utah and it would be goodnight PAC. It's a shame but they can thank Larry Scott and his failed PAC 12 Network. What a disaster.

I personally don't want to see anymore expansion for the BIG. 16 teams you can almost have a legitimate league format for Football. Any beyond that then it is next to impossible to do it.

It would not surprise me if someone like Arizona went ahead and jumped to the Big XII instead of waiting for implosion, especially if the PAC deal is less

I think you’ll see Oregon go to the Big 10 along with one other team - Washington or Stanford would be my guess.

Washington, Oregon, Stanford, and Notre Dame to get to 20 then close the doors. Would have a nice western division / pod of Washington, Oregon, Stanford, USC, UCLA. Notre Dame as always is the key. Will they continue to hold on to Independence? For how long?
