It's not on the TV schedule, but NFL Network has been showing a special (Looks like a 30 for 30 kind of show) about Ray Guy, the only special teams player in the NFL HOF.
It's a really great show. I always knew he was the best kicker I ever saw. He was also a tremendous athlete. All his teammates and former coaches say he could have played any position on the field. Madden says he always had a stronger arm than ANY of his QB's. He pitched a no-hitter in college, hours before football practice. In High School, he was 3rd in the State of Mississippi in Triple Jump, on the same day he LEARNED how to Triple jump. He also played DB in High School, and led the nation in interceptions. This Guy could just do anything.
But, he's also VERY COUNTRY. Down to earth. Plain spoken.
He accepted a scholarship to Southern Miss after Bear Bryant put his arm around him and said "You'll play four years for me, doing nothing but kicking the ball, and never getting your jersey dirty before you go Pro". Ray said, "That the worst thing he coulda said to me. I LIKED doing eveything and getting dirty".
I always liked Ray Guy... I was a Raider fan as a kid. But damn, this guy is close to Nolan Ryan status. He's DA MAN!

Truly among the greats. Bum once said of EarlC I don't know if he is in a class by himself but whatever class he is in, it don't take long to call the roll. Guy was in that class. RIP
