At the time I will officially remove the m for mCFP
Just using this year for example. We have championship week and here are the impacts with 4 teams. Here are the only games that matter P12 USC playing to be in B12 TCU may need win tOSU looks to replace USC possibly TCU BAMA still alive in hail mary mode This year we have 2 games that could affect the field with realistically 5 teams alive for 4 spots
12 Teams SEC UGA playing for First round Bye LSU playing to get in B10 ttun playing for first round Bye Purdue playing to get in B12 TCU playing for a first round Bye KSU playing to get in a possible Bye P12 USC playing for a Bye Utah playing to get in ACC Clemson and NC both playing for a spot AAC UCF and Tulane playing for a spot Teams solidly in tOSU, BAMA, Tenn, PSU 2 Spots left Washington Florida St K State Loss to TCU
Utah loss to USC With this format we have 18 teams that will be impacted with 12 slots available How could you not want this

Top 4 with byes and bottom 8 play at home of the higher ranked team.

It will be the first CFP in history not to feature one of Alabama, Clemson or Ohio State
The playoff problem was fixing itself.
At this point, there shouldn’t be many games that matter. The best teams are known.

How are UFC and Tulane playing for a spot? Hypothetical if they get ranked in the top 12? Or does the top rated G5 conference champ automatically get in?

Top six conference champs get in; top four conference champs (not top four teams) get byes.

The new setup will increase the push to no divisions and top-two conference championships. The Big Ten is case in point. A Purdue win "might" not be enough to get them in, allowing the Sun Belt champ to slip into the #6 slot. Without divisions, tOSU and Michigan would be playing again tomorrow with the winner getting a bye. Michigan would be in. tOSU would probably be in with another loss, but there are only six at-large slots and depending on what happens in the other ccgs, they "could" be just outside.

So applying 2024 rules to today, a Purdue team that lost four games and should have lost at home to a Florida Atlantic team team that finished 5-7, would be 60 minutes from the College Football Playoff.

Possibly. They would likely be behind the champions from the SEC, B12, ACC, P12, and AAC. The only question is would they be behind the SB champ or UTSA (should they win the CUSA).

A bunch of teams with no business competing for the National Champ title scrambling for a playoff spot … and this is progress ?
This changes CF completely. Now it’ll be like every other sport, just the way Hen has always wanted it.
Oh well… it was already dead.

It at least pretty much guarantees the deserving teams get in; not hoping some committee makes the right decision about #4, #5, #6.

Sure, occasionally some surprising teams with less than dominant records could back in but that would be far more offset by including numerous strong , deserving, worthy teams and champions that , otherwise, would get voted 'not worthy or not qualified' in an exclusive 'Invitational' event. Yes, all other team sports on Earth( including NCAA football) have accepted that trade off.

If something is popular, by design it will be absolutely destroyed it in favor of quarterly earnings.
The shitty part about it ruining college football is that there isn't really a good replacement. This is in contrast to capitalism absolutely fucking up other types of entertainment like music, games and TV/Movies. In those media, there are independent musicians, developers or directors that fill in the void and create quality content.
The best you can do is invest in Disney, and profit from the college football fans watching 2 hours of commercials during a game with 12 minutes of action.

As we inch closer to the end of the season, let’s recognize everyone’s biggest wins of the season:
- Michigan: 22-point win over Ohio State, 24-point win over Penn State
- Ohio State: Utah’s 23-point win over USC
