Take this for what its worth, but I have heard (unsubstantiated) that the Big Ten's current thinking (unknown time frame) is 22 teams with a 3/6/6/6 scheduling setup (3 permanent rivals and the other 18 in a one year on, two year off setup). They would need to add six more teams. The top four targets are Notre Dame, Florida State, North Carolina, and Virginia. There are a lot of options for the other two slots (or three slots if they can't land Notre Dame).

I am against any further expansion. To me 12 is the perfect size. 16 would be absolute max. Anything beyond that it is simply way to big to have a decent structure for a league. Look at the SEC before there expansion. The current format has BAMA playing every team from the east exactly one time every 6 years (with the exception of UT) That is simply rediculous.

Just read a post that the Big 10 is targeting 4 Pac 12 teams. Cal, Stanford, Wash and Oregon. It was on the internet, has to be true. But it was the MSN news site

ACC schools won't be going anywhere...the total cost is simply too high to recover.
FSU is making noise, saying the buyout is about $120MM, but the reality is that number is much higher. FSU could leave tomorrow for that number, but the real number is closer to $350MM to $400MM.
If it were as simple as just the buyout, TExas and OK would have already been members of the SEC.
It's no secret that Clemson and FSU want a bigger share of the football pie from the ACC, but the other schools may see that as an anticipatory breach of contract.

Why not just make it 50 teams?
My God, this stuff just gets more and more ridiculous.

Why not just make it 50 teams? My God, this stuff just gets more and more ridiculous. The more that the tinker with the system the more damage will incur. Pretty similar to politics. Get as much power as you can. Forget about integrity, break any rule you can get away with and then repeat the same lies over and over again until it is perceived as truth. In the end if you get the power you win. Just my 2 cents. The NIL deal implementation is a disaster. It isn't name and likeness it is actually name likeness and university affiliation. As far as I know there is no limits on the amount that can be given so the bigger your booster program the better talent you will get. Hence, the Blue Bloods get Bluer. The transfer portal is essentially a minor league program for the Blue Bloods. If a Blue Blood has 4 and 5 stat talent they get demoted to the minor leagues. When the minor leagues develop there talent they get promoted to the Blue Bloods. I do like the expanded playoffs but the separation from the Blue Bloods (which is maybe 10 to 15 programs) vs the remaining field will grow bigger and bigger with each passing year.

I think aj pretty well nailed it.
It's just too bad that the NFL didn't have a full minor league system in place, complete with the big $ signing bonuses (those signing bonuses now provided by aj's NIL "blue bloods"). Then, college football would still have a little something to do with 'college'.

Can we call the GOOD teams, "Red Bloods"? "blue" is kind of synonymous now with: STOOPID.

Yeah Bevo . Blue = stupid. The average Blue IQ vs the average Red IQ would be interesting to know......also educational level IQ wise, the states are in a pretty tight range. 94 - MS to 104 - MA On average: blue 99, red 99.5...purple 100.9 "As we talked about prior, IQ scores are not perfect or a complete measure of your skills and abilities. These are also large population numbers. While 10 iq points may make an individual difference, for a group the difference may not be as profound. All the scores fall between 90-110. Since the Woodcock–Johnson Test of Cognitive Abilities deems anything in that range “average.” So Mississippi shouldn’t be wallowing in defeat and maybe Massachusetts shouldn’t be bragging."

CPA, so there are state by state stats in which all adult citizens have taken IQ tests Please cite such a source. Are you auditioning for a prime time Fox news propaganda program or something ? There is legitimate data available, however, for educational levels of states. Take a look at some of these tables.....for example, the first one showing % of population with at least bachelor degrees. You can see a clear RED/Blue voting geographical distinction and pattern. Scroll right to the very bottom to view the least educated. There you will find trump's and FNCs easy to fool 'base'.....West Virginia,Mississipi, Arkansas, Louisiana, Kentucky, Alabama etc.etc. ...the 'dumbth' factor epicenters that feature a 'general', higher percentage population of folks more easily lied to, controlled and mobilized. This dumbth factor enabled the the greatest tragedy in US history, 160 years ago...the Civil War...in which the Southern Aristocracy was actually able to recruit an Army (with great deception) to wage war against the United States Of America. Most of these poor non educated enlistees had no real understanding of what they were really fighting and dying for. History is starting to repeat itself.
There are bunches of these dumbest/smartest states type surveys out there but they are kind of sketchy as all citizens don't take IQ, SAT , ACT and other measurable s, yet there is still a general pattern.....the heavy trumpism MAGA/ FNC (and similar) states always found at the bottom.

Sure, there's no shortage of extremely biased data and studies, whose sole premise is to present red states as largely unwashed and ignorant. So, here are the estimated average IQ rates for residents of each U.S. state, as compiled by Michael McDaniel, formerly a professor at Virginia Commonwealth University, and reported by The Washington Post.
It's worth noting that the IQ test in and of itself is controversial to begin with. The Post in fact ranked states according to not just IQ test, but also average SAT and ACT score, along with the overall percentage of college graduates. But as imperfect as the IQ test is, at least it's a consistent metric. Here are the results: Massachusetts 104.3 New Hampshire 104.2 North Dakota 103.8 Vermont 103.8 Minnesota 103.7 Maine 103.4 Montana 103.4 Iowa 103.2 Connecticut 103.1 Wisconsin 102.9 Kansas 102.8 New Jersey 102.8 South Dakota 102.8 Wyoming 102.4 Nebraska 102.3 Virginia 101.9 Washington 101.9 Ohio 101.8 Indiana 101.7 Colorado 101.6 Pennsylvania 101.5 Idaho 101.4 Oregon 101.2 Utah 101.1 Missouri 101 New York 100.7 Michigan 100.5 Delaware 100.4 North Carolina 100.2 Texas 100 Illinois 99.9 Maryland 99.7 Rhode Island 99.5 Kentucky 99.4 Oklahoma 99.3 Alaska 99 West Virginia 98.7 Florida 98.4 South Carolina 98.4 Georgia 98 Tennessee 97.7 Arkansas 97.5 Arizona 97.4 Nevada 96.5 Alabama 95.7 New Mexico 95.7 Hawaii 95.6 California 95.5 Louisiana 95.3 Mississippi 94.2

So most of these assorted smartest and dumbest surveys are for political purposes....to paint the trump worshiping states as cerebrally and educationally inferior. Even the US Census ?
Well, there's a new one from the National Champs conspiracy club
