The following story is heartbreaking and disturbing. You'll probably think I'm just trying to present an article that makes Michigan looks bad but there's much more to it than that. The young lady in this story was my cousin's daughter. The mother, who is simply trying to get answers, is a dear friend. I introduced my cousin to his future wife when she and I worked together over 40 years ago. We were in each other's weddings. My wife and I attended this girl's funeral. At the time all I knew is she had died from an accidental overdose. I didn't know of any of the events that led to her death. Shortly after her death my cousin told me that he had accepted the fact that he's never going to have another good day, only good moments.
They know the name of the player who did this. They also know the names of the players who did nothing to stop it. I'll say I'm very proud of my friend (the mother) for not giving up on getting justice for her daughter even though it appears there are many people at the University of Michigan who feel that since she's dead, there's no need for further action...'Closed hearsay - VICTIM deceased.' I hope this story leads to the players involved being held accountable. Their daughter is dead while one of the players involved will be cheered for by over 100,000 screaming fans in a college football stadium later the year. That's not right.
