Went there about 30 years ago and was not a fan. It was pretty beat up at the time with the spring breakers. Rating the Florida Beaches that I have been to. 1) Siesta Key (Only problems is we went during spring brak with kids and the restaurant waits were long) 2) Clearwater ( White sands and a lot of activity) 3) Destin\Grayton\Ft Walton - All pan handle beaches and white sands. 4) Miami Beach - Pretty cool vibe and the topless option has its benefits 5) Cocoa - 6) Melbourne - Kind of a personal favorite. Been there lots for work and always got a hotel on the water.
Been to Key West many times. Beaches aren't great but Higgs beach has a nice bar in front of it. The beach is nice but a bit on the rocky side

We watch OnPatrol Live and they are ALWAYS dealing with crazy people in Volusia County and Daytona Beach. We were flying in/out of Sanford, going to Disney, and Daytona was the closest, by far. We stayed in the Wyndham Ocean Walk complex. It's right on the boardwalk, next to a huge Hilton. We felt really safe. We had great service at our place. There were good restaurants within walking distance.. (the Starlight Diner was AWESOME!) Crabbie's was only 2 miles away, an easy drive. Their seafood was really good. The beach at Daytona is very different. It's hard-pack. That's the way the beaches were where I grew up in Texas, south of Galveston. You can drive on it, dig in it. The tide at Daytona seemed huge. It was 5 ft. On a beach that flat, it was 50-60 yards difference between high and low tide. We had chair and umbrella service. What made the experience though was the people.... there were a LOT of them. Mostly families, people throwing balls around, playing games. Everyone was really chill... having fun. The waves were ROUGH for the first two days, calmer the next two. There were food trucks on the beach. The water temperature was great! About 81-82F. In Miami last month, it was near 100F. It was miserable. I would definitely go back to Daytona. It was fun. I do still prefer the beaches at Destin. Miramar is my favorite. We stay at a place called "The Crescent".... it's reasonably priced, and perfectly placed. We were at South Beach at the start of July and I was underwhelmed. Miami was nice. The beach was TOO HOT. And, there were no boobs. :-( The last time we were there, 19 years ago, it was Spring Break, and there were bare boobs everywhere. Not this time. We still enjoyed Miami. My favorite beaches are: 1) Maho Beach, St. Maartens : The "Airport Beach"... Google it if you don't know about it. 2) Waikiki Beach, Hawaii : It's just beautiful. The weather is great. The waves are the longest I've ever seen, anywhere. 3) Miramar, near Destin: The water is so beautiful. And, there is a TON of things to do. 4) Orient Beach, St. Maartens : HUGE beach, with tons of people to watch... some, you might not want to see. But, more that you will. 5) South Padre Island, Texas : Have to have one from my home state and this is the best in Texas. Sunrises there are glorious. Fun place to relax.

My number #1 is Destin, but I haven't been to as many beaches
Daytona Beach was pretty nice when I went. I remember they have alot of biker events there
And South Padre is great

May need to give Daytona another shot. During the Pandemic we went down to Key West about 5 times. It has great restaurants, Duval Street, and I think the Beaches are better then advertised. It has just gotten really expensive and looking to to something different.
I did go to South Padre in the 90's and I thought that was Awesome. A friend of mine had a good friend who was a priest and he took us into Mexico. Priest were treated like royalty in Mexico back then. Pretty sure I would not even consider that today.
I did go to Galveston a few years back and was not big on it. It was maybe late July and had to go to JSC and brought the wife. We headed down for a few days and just remembered how hot and humid it was. When you opened the door to the hotel to go outside it almost felt like you were getting sand blasted.
