while this sounds crazy, Stanford and Cal fit pretty well academically. The ACCN would get higher carriage rates in California
It would make sense to add SMU as well, but I don't know who would be 4th
If FSU and Clemson, and possibly more did leave, the conference would be set up well as a core of academic schools.
No one knows North Carolina's motivations either. Maybe they would be fine staying in the ACC.

I take a couple of weeks away, and the PAC12 and ACC are dead? WTH?
I really, truly hate all this realignment. It is destroying the very nature of the sport. This, and the transfer portal. I don't know which is worse.
Oh well.... the only thing that is ever certain is "change". Guess I'll deal with it.
This is August. The season when ALL Longhorn fans are hopeful. It only lasts a few weeks. So, I'm going to try to enjoy it.

Schools like Pitt and Duke would be more likely intent on rebuilding, maybe with SMU, Tulane, and USF

I'm gravitating to the NFL Lot's of Buckeye Fans going that direction. 5 years ago my interest was 90% College Football 10% NFL. I would say I am now 70 -30 but then again I am a die hard college football fan.

The ACC needs both of these teams, AND VT, to return to solid on the field football. No more of "which team is going to lose to Clemson by 30 in the ACCCCG". FWIW, former Clemson Univ president Barker told the ACC years ago to go ahead and expand with 2-4 more schools. They chose not to.

Logistics How do you get many different sports teams to the west coast twice a year? Not just football. I think this just doesn't work in the broad view.

Me too - a dedicated CF junkie all my adult life. I'm , maybe, 60 -40 right now and trending away from all the TV revenue controlled lunacy in this once great sport.

If I remember correctly, I saw somewhere that if the ACC added at least 2 teams, their contract and payout with ESPN could be revised. If that is true, then the ACC could get higher payouts from the network, if they have the money. And with higher payouts, toward the SEC/Big 10 realm, no need for anyone to leave. This could be a good thing. Keeps the ACC viable. But, does ESPN/ABC have the extra cash.

Texas was #1 and tOSU was #2.

Stanford and Cal...absolutely amazing academics, poor business and logistics skills
If they followed the idea I put out in another thread, and added San Diego State, Colorado State, Rice, SMU, and Tulane, they would still be the 5th best conference.
Of course ACC leadership isn't much better...

Stanford and Cal have a reach beyond the NCAA stuff...these 2 schools are the 2 primary feeder farms for our Olympic teams.
