I pretty much tuned out of MLB for the past 15 years because the Reds were so awful. Also the games took forever and typically by the All Star break the Reds were pretty much eliminated. This year is completely different. Then new rules with clocks and other things make it far more bearable. This Reds team is a bit different. It is a bunch of young guys that are playing well and are having a lot of fun doing it. They won tonight against Seattle after a 6 -3 deficit and would have thought they won the world series. The energy is simply through the roof and watching the enthusiasm of this team makes it that much more special. At the moment they are on the edge of the last Wild card spot but I would love to see them make it.

I enjoy a good baseball post, aj, and appreciate your enthusiasm for the young Reds. Meanwhile, my veteran Phillies club ( with the 4th or 5th highest payroll) is inconsistently struggling to hold onto a wild card slot. After that magical post season run to the NL championship and WS last season they should be doing better. The pitching stars have tailed off a bit this season. My second favorite team, the Orioles, are the nicest story in MLB imo. Like your team , it's a bunch of enthusiastic, hungry , young guys ( 2nd lowest payroll in all of MLB ) having fun and winning in a division with all those high dollar teams. Love it. Maybe its my age but with all the ridiculous directions CF has been going I'm really losing my passion for the sport and turning more and more to Baseball for sports entertainment. On week one Saturday I mostly watched Baseball and even hopped on my tractor to grade my road in the middle of CF day.....not a good sign. I'm probably not much of a good fit for this forum anymore ( and the trumpy lovers would be glad to get rid of me....heee )

Gotta say I thought the Reds were done last night, down 5-1 and the guy made the circus catch on De La Cruz's bases loaded liner to left field. Great to see they came back. Amazing they're where they are with the pitching staff issues they have. Plus, they infield is made up entirely of Rookies and the best of the lot, McLain is on the injured list. (As well as India). Regardless of how this plays out, the prospects look good for the future if they can get some stability in the rotation and bullpen. Plus, I'm still not sold on Bell as a manager.
My only other comment would be I hate how pitchers no longer are allowed to finish what they start. Could you imagine Steve Carlton, Bob Gibson, Tom Seaver etc leaving a game with a 2 or 3 hitter. Ridiculous.

Couldn't agree more, doc, about today's 'pitch count' strategy, but it's universal now in MLB.

Couldn't agree more, doc, about today's 'pitch count' strategy, but it's universal now in MLB. Probably Terry Francona’s last managerial season for the Guardians and it’s been a massive disappointment, which is a shame because Terry’s a first class human being and MLB manager but the Guardiabs should have a roster capable of making a deep run in October…… the youthful roster which kinda helped them last year…… hurt them in a lot of ways this year. I also didn’t like the Front office selling Josh Bell and Aaron Civale for basically peanuts on the dOllar when the team was only a half game out in the Central and three of our other starting pitchers were out. I would have loved for them to wait for a couple of these guys to give it a go in September, as I felt the team still could have been dangerous…… now they’re pretty much done. I hope Francona gets a standing ovation send off though.

I hope Francona gets a standing ovation send off though. Francona had several good teams in his years with the Tribe, but he came oh so close to going back to back in 2016 and 2017! In 2016 The Indians had a 3-1 World Series lead against the Cubs and should have won the Series in game 5…… they only had two starting pitchers still healthy at the end of 2016, so when it went past five I knew they were in trouble…… in 2017 they had a +254 run differential and set the MLB record by winning 22 consecutive games! I believe they were the best team in 2017, and they were actually 6-1 vs the eventual World Series champion Houston Astros in the regular season! Their +254 run differential actually places them among one of the best teams to not win a World Series……. They had swept the Yankees in a three game series in New York as part of their 22 game win streak and had a 2-0 lead against them in the divisional series……. Before losing Game 3 1-0. The Yankees got hot and they never regained momentum in that series.

I think if the Indians win the World Series in 2016, they probably repeat in 2017 with the pressure to get the hump relieved a bit….

Phillies take 2 of 3 from Padres in San Diego. I'll take that. Schwarber and Realmutto hit dingers. Schwaerer is the strangest lead off hitter in MLB.......hitting about .200, leading the team in strike outs and slow. But he has 41 HRs including 10- lead off dingers so maybe manager Rob Thomson knows something. Bryson Stott is the logical lead off guy, IMO. We're still atop the NL wild card race by a couple of games but games coming up vs Marlins and Braves.
