Ohio State had one of the best defenses in the country? they were the most talented? lol
the crux of the article is correct, even with the writer's Scarlett and Grey leanings....
you have to earn your way into a playoff. The "Best Team" Eye test crap that has been beaten into the heads of college football fans since the first AP Poll is dying....it's actually turning into CHAMPIONSHIP football....
the committee wants conference CHAMPs from around the country....they want good representation. I think if Alabama had slipped up again (like losing to Tennessee), you would have seen Stanford get momentum to pass Ohio State.
How far will the committee push this logic? Can a conference get two teams in the playoff? This next year, Clemson and FSU are both loaded....if Clemson loses by a field goal, and is sitting their with an 11-1 record, would they get in over some other conference champs??

Well, Ohio State was #2 in scoring defense and they will have 15 or so players drafted in the NFL draft. Not saying they were the most talented but they were in the top 4, which has been substantiated by numerous NFL scouts. With all due respect, I think I trust their opinion a little more than a guy named Evil Vodka on a college website. But the point of the story is they aren't looking for the best teams, they're looking for the most deserving and they got it right. My point is, if that's the criteria, it's really not that difficult a job as long as Notre Dame and some group of 6 team doesn't run the table.

That is, exactly correct.
It's a subtle difference, but... and important one.
For example: In 2014, ANYONE with even modest football knowledge knew, TCU was the "best" team in the Big 12. But Baylor was the "most deserving".... as a result of their head to hear win (albeit, unjust) over TCU.

Somewhere there is an NFL scout that told Cleveland to select Johnny Manziel for their top pick. I knew he would be a bust As for Ohio State...I don't think they are chop liver talent-wise. But saying they are #1, or had the best defense is completely debatable and arguable.... Definitely top 10....There were plenty of good defenses though. I'd probably go with Alabama for that one.

Cleveland was more interested in selling jerseys than winning football games. Consider the source!!! Cleveland is not a good common denominator....

I gotta side with EV on this one. Using NFL scouts in your argument doesn't strengthen your position much, if any. Those are the guys that told us Ryan Leaf was the equal to Peyton Manning, and better than players like Charles Woodson and Randy Moss!

They made pretty easy work of a Notre Dame team that went to Clemson and lost by 2......... without 3 starters on the defensive front, If Joey Bosa stays in that game it's a lot worse.
I absolutely think Ohio State was one of the top three teams in the country this season, and they may have beaten 'Bammer for the second year in a row, but did they deserve to be there under the current format? Absolutely not, and I'm a huge Bucks homer, and I love Urban, but this was probably one of his weakest seasons coaching wise ever........there is absolutely no way teams such as Northern Illinois, Indianna etc should have hung around with these Buckeyes, those slow starts at the end of the season played a part in the Buckeyes NOT being a bigger factor for playoff consideration. If Ohio State had been rolling teams from the beginning of the year and lost by 3 to Michigan State..........I think there would have been a louder push for them to get in.
That said it says something about the kind of coach you have when a 12-1 season, that culminates in a Fiesta Bowl win, feels a little empty

Well, that was almost 20 years ago - I doubt the same guys are making those ignorant decisions- especially whoever the guy was in San Diego!Randy Moss was a character issue far more than talent. I don't think his talent was ever questioned. Maybe EV should apply for the director of player personnel in Cleveland!

I think any of us would be a better choice for the Director of player personnel in Cleveland.
Be careful of over-estimating the OSU victory over Notre Dame. I don't know of any team that lost more players to injury this year then ND. Texas was the ONLY team that played them a full strength. ND was keeping hope alive until the Stsnford game. I believe, that loss left them completely deflated. They had much bigger dreams this year.

Yep, Look no further than TJ Green (S) from Clemson declaring for the draft - AFTER just surrendering 14 points to the Tide on blown coverages in the Natty.
These guys are getting lots of bad info. Green will be lucky to be drafted, much less get 1st round money. My guess is that he already signed with an agent and now can't reverse that decision.

That said I'm happy with the Hugh Jackson hire, I think that was one of the best coaching decisions they've made since they've been back That said about Meyer, I do think he'll call it quits in about 5-10 years, and I think Ohio State already has their sights on Herman as the heir apparent

I actually give them credit for not going through the motions and going out on a positive note. They had 9 underclassmen declare for the draft and those guys could have played not to get hurt - that or ND was just bad! Do me favor and get your Texas boys to kick their ass next year in Austin so we can get them out of the hunt the first weekend!

Absolutely Step #1: Hire Nick Saban Step #2: Trade Manziel as soon as possible That said I'm happy with the Hugh Jackson hire, I think that was one of the best coaching decisions they've made since they've been back Jackson is very good at developing young QB's which Cleveland will most assuredly have (I don't think he has any intention of keeping Manziel). He's a no nonsense guy and players love to play for him; he'll build the offense around the QB's skills. Hate to see him leave Cincy, especially for Cleveland.
