I am still glad that we are going to the 12 team format but I am starting to see some of the pros towards the 4 teams playoff vs the 12.
With the 4 team format we are essentially down to 8 teams with Louisville as the darkhorse. With this scenario we have an overload of highly competetive do or die games. tOSU - ttun, BIG CCG ttun - tOSU BIG CCG Wash - Or St, PAC12 CCG Oregon Or St, PAC12 CCG UGA - UT, SEC CCG BAMA - UA??? SEC CCG Texas - IA St, B12 CCG FSU - UF??? ACC CCG UL - Mia, KY, ACC CCG Even though some of teams need some help all these games matter significantly to determine the final 4. Also every CCG could have a huge impact on who makes the CFP.
In the 12 team format these games do matter but no where close to the significance. The loser of the tOSU ttun game gets awarded with a home game in the playoff. Then they go play someone else at a neutral location. The benefit is that you now have teams like Liberty, Tulane, Iowa, maybe 5 B12 teams, Oregon St, PSU, Mizzou, Ole Miss, and NC all with some legitimate hope going into the final stretch. Then after that you get 11 additional absolution do or die games to determine the champion.
Again I do like moving to 12 teams but it is going to severly impact the drama on CCG weekend.

It'll be so complicated, no one will know what matters, and what doesn't, until it's all over.

It'll be so complicated, no one will know what matters, and what doesn't, until it's all over. Actually that's what we have now with the great record skip at the end of the season. All the games get played, then we all wait for a bunch of guys in the backroom to tell us who gets to play By far the dumbest postseason in any sport With the 12, you can be sure that if you win your conference, you're in If you look at the Big XII, Oklahoma, Kansas State, and Oklahoma State are done in the 4 team, just waiting for their CheezeIt Bowl In the 12, all of those teams can still make it. JUST WIN YOUR CONFERENCE

If Ohio St wins in a 12, you get to skip the first round with a bye If Ohio State loses, they host LSU or Oklahoma, or maybe Alabama Also, you might enjoy that Big 10 championship more if suddenly you're having to play Washington or Oregon instead of Iowa

There will be soooooo many more critical and meaningful late season games with 12 slots available. It's a great step forward, imo, and significantly reduces the 'mythical' cloud which has plagued this level of CF forever.

However it will have a significant impact on where the focus will be with the CCG games. For the P5 schools it will be more about your seeding as oppose to just qualifying. This year when the game is played, it will determine the BIG East Champ, BIG CCG invite, and invite to the CFP. The loser will be on the outside twiddling their thumbs hoping for some CCG upsets.

....and both losers are definitely worthy to compete for a national championship. 2024 will be more like all other team championships in intercollegiate athletics. I'm hoping the next and final step will include all FBS leagues (champions).....probably a 16 team , 4 week playoff with no byes

If the follow what hoops has done, then I would guess that at somepoint all conference leagues champs may get in. If it is 16 teams then 8 auto and 8 at large. If there are more than 8 conferences, I would eventually expect a play in game or 2.
