Phoebus High School defeated Jamestown 104-0 in the Virginia HS Playoffs.
They led 56-0 after the first quarter, and 84-0 at halftime. Jamestown committed 3 TOs on its foirst three possessions, resulting in a 20-0 lead after 48 SECONDS.
Jamestown's record was 1-9 on the season entering the playoff game.
Phoebus is no stranger to VA HS Championships, winning in 01/02/06/08 thru 11, and currently seeking a 3-peat after moving up in classification.
Clemson's,Tahj Boyd was the QB in the 08-09 season.
As Hen knows, this area is highly recruited by College coaches for that "Tidewater speed".
Maybe the question to ask is what is a 1-9 team doing in the playoffs? And, why throw a 28 yard TD pass on the last play of the game?

A 1-9 team in state playoffs That is ridiculous. Virginia has gone to a 6 class playoff now from a simple class A,AA and AAA format, which was so much cleaner and easier to follow. Our little local HS FB team (Grayson Co. Blue Devils, 10-1) has made it to the 2nd round of the class 1 playoffs and I've had a bunch of fun going to the games. The team only has about 30 players and they are a bunch of undersized but nicely coached little white kids. cpa is sure right about the Tidewater , Va area speed farm. Frank Beamer pretty well owned that area for recruiting and that's why VT was so good in his day. We don't get many of those kids anymore.

Yep, the new 6 class system (A, AA, and AAA divided into 2 classes each) is based on "power points" or something like that. Each team is assigned a base value based on class and then is rewarded for wins, and wins of the teams you have played, so sort of a opponents- opponents points as well. That's how a 1-9 team gets into the playoff. Jamestown was a #8 seed in the Class 4 bracket.

thanks cpa. Yep, too complex and too bloated, imo, and can yield goofy results . Looks like about 25 % of the schools are in the playoffs.

Embarrassing. A coach should never beat an opponent that badly. There should have been a running clock once the score got out of hand. You don’t need to humiliate kids.

Apparently the Jamestown players told their coach to continue playing, even after being offered to call the game at halftime (84-0).

I played in a game once where the refs asked if we wanted to quit at halftime. The score was 0-49. We continued. They put cheerleaders in at QB in the 2nd half, and we ended up losing 56-0. sad times...
