I think it would be interesting to see some actual good bowl games going forward when the 12 team playoff starts
What if, the CFP entity grabbed 2 bowls as appetizer games for the 8 teams that will play in the playoffs around New Years?
For example, what if they took the Citrus and Alamo Bowl, and just created matchups based purely on Brand Name
They would be At-Large vs. At-Large
These would be pure exhibition games
For this year, you could have:
Citrus Bowl: LSU vs. Clemson Alamo Bowl: Oklahoma vs. Notre Dame
Essentially they'd be the New Year 2 Bowls....I know there would still be lots of opt outs, but that's going to happen regardless. I still think these games would get good attendance and ratings. I would watch these games while waiting around for the playoff

Any interest in bowl games died after the four-team CFP started. With a 12-team playoff, they will become like the basketball NIT. The 12-team playoff will eventually go to 16 (doesn't add another week) and non-playoff bowl games will be a distant memory. In fact I wish the playoff would ditch them too and just play the playoff games on the campus of the higher seed until the championship game.

non-playoff bowl games will be a distant memory. No way... they will remain a bane to our existence forever. They make money for people and help pay for stadiums. Like cockroaches, they will remain for all time. Well, for as long as tackle football is allowed to be played.

After 120 years of an exhibition mode post season, including some pseudo/mythical, invitational style playoffs in recent decades, that should be the logical plan for big time college aged football to aspire to....

When the lower divisions of CF went to full fledged, inclusive , on field playoffs about 50 years ago all their assorted post season exhibition games completely disappeared. If somebody thinks those things might be profitable at the 'major' level maybe a few might survive. Who knows ?
