To a player like Marvin Harrison Jr?
1) Stay in college one more year, try to beat UM, be a TOP DOG player, make $2.5+M in NIL, have prime access to all the age-appropriate beauty, or
2) Go the NFL, get paid LESS, work harder in a city you don't choose, have a GREATER chance of being injured, 2-3X more press coverage, have 10x less fun.
My wife and I have a running disagreement about this. I have a hard time explaining to her exactly how AWESOME college would be with $2M in your bank account. Hell, I can barely contemplate it myself.
She thinks these guys are anxious to make their mark on the NFL.
In the past, it was a NO BRAINER! Kids I desperately wanted to stay, I HAD to say, "Go young man... make your family wealthy". But now? I'm not so sure. The money is not so different. In some cases, it might actually be Less?
If money is not the issue, why wouldn't most young men prefer to stay in college? I sure think I would.
It's one little unanticipated consequence of the new NIL rules.
Maybe, Texas CAN keep Ewers AND Manning? They'll both be making tons of money. If injured, neither would be rushed back, risking their long-term health, and both would be.... um, "well cared for" in Austin.
