Got an NCAA D1 quarter-final tonight with Furman trying to hang with #2 seed Montana (9:00 espn2) and 2 quarter final games tomorrow ( both on one of the ESPN channels). Very Bizarre , but the winners will advance to the final four without a single committee meeting or vote.
And then there's Army-Navy on Saturday. I so admire those student athletes. Also very bizarre having two entire rosters of kids with 3 digit IQs who can speak in complete and coherent sentences, and have legitimate classes and majors and , of course, are committed to serve our nation's defense. The hardest part of the day for football players at places like Alabama is football practice. The easiest part of the day for military academy players is football practice.

If one team advances, but no one noticed? Did it really happen?

Yeah, I'll keep you posted It's fun, Bevo, watching teams surviving and advancing through a playoff rather than wondering if they might or might not survive an opinionated committee . One of these days you'll 'get' the difference between voting and playing (scoreboards vs opinions)...... but just remember, I'm here for you, buddy, to help you painlessly get through it.

Division 1 has a committee to vote in most of the teams in the playoff.

Division 1 has a committee to vote in most of the teams in the playoff. Oh sure, there has to be some kind of system to select the at large entries in an inclusive championship playoff ( objective criteria better than subjective) but once done only scoreboards decide everything to the conclusion.

Just smaller Conference champs are not automatically qualified in the DPI. That's a huge difference .... inclusiveness vs exclusiveness. Other than that , basically size.

Problem is, P5 “conference” are really bloated “semi-Divisions”… their “Champs” are often not very representative of their “top teams”. They are definitely NOT fair in the way they do it. The unbalanced scheduling and vastly different strengths between conference make it a joke. Frankly, I’d still rather see a system that used something like CJ’s rankings to field a year end, Invitational Tournament. Just call it what it is.

Sure would have been nice to have my team participate but then again we did lose to the number team in the country by 6 points on the road with a chance to win at the end. Clearly more deserving teams were able to make. Bama lost at home by 10 points but that eye test clearly made them the more deserving team.

OSU wasn't even in ESPN's discussion narrative when they were throwing around possible combinations of the DPI. I thought that was insulting and ridiculous.

Everyone else was in competition for a Mulligan. MANY are worthy for that… too many

If they wanted the best 4 teams tOSU should have been in ahead of Bama. Bama had way way too many close calls including rivalry week to be taken of the tOSU which the computers agree with.
If they want the 4 teams that truly deserved to be in then it should have been ttun, UW, FSU, and possibly Texas based on winning a conference title and beating BAMA.
What they got was 4 teams that were selected based on ESPN enormous power in terms of influence and which the committee caved. Can't have a true National Championship without FSU in the mix. With that being said I am pulling for Washington to win the post season exhibition tournament.

I'm happy that OSU is OUT of the CFP. :-)
I sure wish Bama was too.
