So we go to Bowl Season with 3 P5 teams undefeated and clearly deserving of spot in the CFP. The committee pivots and takes 2 1 loss teams. At the end of the semi's we still have 3 undefeated teams.
BTW the Orange Bowl does not count due to the opt outs. FSU had 20+ players opt out and seven were headed to the NFL draft. Of the 57 offensive TD scored during the season, only 8 were from players on the OB depth chart.
If they were going for ratings then they got it but we will never know who the best team was this season. Great job from the ESPNSEC committee

Every time I have said BAMA would have played better but for the missing players I was told I was just making excuses. I guess this rule perfectly OK for any team but Alabama.
Things that make me go Hhmmmmm

Do think there will still be 'opt outs' in the 12 team format ? After all, the champion will have had to play 3 or 4 more post season games and several of the others, 2-3 post season games. That's 200-400 % more chance of injury risk than a single post season exhibition game. For the future pros the choice still remains - generational financial security vs a Dr. Pepper trophy.

Not at first anyway. Maybe, after a few years? NIL is giving a lot of those sure-fire NFL players generational support money in college. Bowl games are going to become like the old Freshman League games.

The bias will be pushed towards the back end of the playoff, because conference champions will now have the security of making it by winning their conference, but will we start seeing a disproportionate amount of SEC teams in the playoff?
There's absolutely no transparency. The BCS rankings were better than this crap
And yes, FSU was totally screwed this year. Whether they won by 50 or lost by 50, they earned the opportunity to play by being an undefeated conference champ. FSU lost in a boardroom before they ever played Georgia.
But what blew my mind the most was the absolute gaslighting...telling a team that won every game put before them that they weren't good enough. FSU was "whining". And alot of this rhetoric came from THE major sports network that is both contracted with the SEC AND the NY6 bowls. I've never seen anything like it in sports. I don't recall the Auburn 2004 or Penn State 1994 snubs being this bad, but then again we live in the land of social media now.

Things that make me go Hhmmmmm on this board? are you talking about a specific game? I think they had key injuries in the '21 Championship vs. Georgia

I don't think so...but who knows
Don't the first round of playoff games start Dec. 20th? I imagine players will play, although you might see backups start leaving
The bowls will get ravaged though

I think they had key injuries in the '21 Championship vs. Georgia Missing because of key injuries is one thing, but when you have 7 starters decide to declare for the draft then that makes a huge difference. On average non CFP teams had roughly 15 players opt out. The bowl games use to be a statement for conference strength but in my mind there is limited interest for me to watch because they have become meaningless.

I'm hearing more people suggesting to move the bowl games to the first week. Idk, but it certainly is an interesting idea
With the 12 team playoff coming, and massive realignment taking place, next year is going to look completely different than what we're used to...

I like that 'first week' idea. Replace those silly rent-a-win-scrimages.

Georgia was shredded in the SEC Championship, and got to back into the semifinals. With the 12 team playoff, Alabama would have gotten a bye, and Georgia would have had to work their way through the playoff.
TCU was a mulligan as well...
I think the upcoming 12 team playoff will be much more rewarding and balanced

First week bowls would bring meaning to what has become simply exhibitions. Two thumbs up.
