A lot of truth to that. Grab a bat John Schroeder.... John is right...he's not a top 30 pitcher, he's a top 5 or maybe even top 3 pitcher. These pitchers today are so soft, most of them never go more than 4 innings. and get days of rest in between that. Nolan Ryan’s 1974 season: 22W 16L, 26 CG, 333 IP, 367 K’s, 202 BB. Ryan was still throwing 95+ heat at age 46. His talent is probably akin to Bo Jackson. Just on another level entirely.

LOL I'm certain Nolan agrees with you. Nolan pitched FOREVER, and still has the LOWEST lifetime batting % against. The Pitcher's job is to get outs. No one did that better than Nolan over a career.

I saw that in over 100 quality no-win starts, Ryan was 0-107, despite a 2.2 ERA....sheesh, talk about no run support at all. Says a lot more about the teams that he played for...

I'm a Nolan fan but he's not even remotely a top 5 pitcher. He's the all time strikeout and no hitter king but his W-L % is 535th best all time and he never won a Cy Young award in his long career......an award given to the annual best MLB pitchers. His very average winning success rate is not because of playing on crappy teams. The teams he played for were collectively 2104-2108. Nolan had serious command and control issues -- MLB's all time leader in walks and wild pitches.

His LIFTIME batting average against settles any discussion for me. Why would that NOT be the all-time best way to measure a pitcher?
