Since I'm a Gator and have no love for the University of Tennessee, I don't think I have any bias towards him but I think winning a second ring cements his legacy as one of the top five QB's of all time. And I think he was the best overall QB in recent history, the most obvious argument being vs Tom Brady.
Tom Brady has been to 6 Super Bowls, winning 4 of them. But that's really the only argument in his favor IMO. He got to play his ENTIRE career with the best-run franchise in the NFL with the best coach in the NFL. Not to mention the best rule-benders in the business.
Meanwhile, Peyton Manning has been to 4 Super Bowls, winning 2 of them. But what I find most impressive is that he went to 2 Super Bowls and won 1 of them with two separate teams. Has a QB ever won a Super Bowl with two separate teams? Furthermore, he took FOUR SEPARATE HEAD COACHES to the Super Bowl:
2006 Colts - Tony Dungy
2009 Colts - Jim Caldwell
2013 Broncos - John Fox
2015 Broncos - Gary Kubiak
I find that remarkable. He was essentially his own offensive coordinator. He was ROBO QB.
When Tom Brady missed 2008 with an ACL tear, the Patriots still went 11-5.
When Peyton Manning missed 2011 with his neck injury, the Colts went 2-14!
In four years with the Broncos, an over the hill Peyton took them to a pair of Super Bowls, winning one of them.
Peyton also has the most league MVP seasons (5), most wins (200), most passing yards, and most TD passes in NFL history.
I love Tom Brady too, but if I were an NFL GM starting a team from scratch and could pick either player to have in their prime for a decade, I would choose Peyton.
Agree or no?
