Does anyone want a number 1 seed?
Alabama is surprising some folks. Picked 13th in the SEC this year and some are saying we will make the dance.

Kentucky is working their way back up the rankings. After they lost to Tennessee (a game they were leading by 28), Cal had a 2 1/2 hour PHYSICAL practice, where they did nothing but work on defense. Since that practice? They've won three game, by an average of 25+ points... including on the road against conference leader, South Carolina, in a game where Cal was ejected 3 minutes into the game.
They are starting to get it together... I'm not sold yet. Not until the big kid, Skal, starts acting like he wants to play. But, if/when he does? There is NO TEAM in the country this crew couldn't beat.

Our little school, Xavier, is 23-3 and if they can go to DC and beat Georgetown this weekend, there will be an epic showdown in Cincinnati next Wednesday between #1 Villanova and given the losses this week, a top 5 Xavier. X has never beaten Villanova as a member of the Big East so a win in that game would be monumental.
Anyway, projections today have Xavier as a #1 seed - the little Jesuit school with an enrollment of 4500 - ahead of most of the blue blood programs. And they are very good, they play 10 deep - have three big men who are rebounding machines and a freshman point guard who will probably play in the NBA. Best for me, alumni are happy and willing to give more money when our team is playing well. Business has been good this year! And just for Hen - we've graduated 96 straight senior basketball players which dates back to 1986.

Xavier had had numerous outstanding basketball teams over the years, but Xavier hasn't defeated Marshall in football since 1968.

Xavier had had numerous outstanding basketball teams over the years, but Xavier hasn't defeated Marshall in football since 1968. Well, as the t-shirt sold at our bookstore says, Xavier football has been undefeated since 1973! Of course we haven't played a game since 1973, as well. I know quite a few guys who were on the final team and played in the historic 'We Are Marshall' game and they still have bitter feelings on how the university shut down the football program. Basically the program was bleeding money and the decision was made to devote all the athletic financial resources to basketball which has obviously turned in to a very wise decision. Our basketball team has helped market the university far greater than a broken down football program could have ever done. I think they've made the NCAA tournament 26 times since the early 1980's, reached the Sweet Sixteen about 8 times and the Elite Eight twice. We have high hopes that this is the year they make the Final Four.

No question, Doc, Xavier has developed an awesome basketball program. I would love to see XU restart its football program. Xavier reminds me of Wichita State.
Pretty much forgotten in history is Wichita State football. WSU has become a power in basketball and baseball, but dropped football after losing half its team in a plane crash the same year Marshall's team was killed.
"Undefeated since 1973". Now, that is funny.
