Ask the next question - where did Michelle Obama steal it from?
These are generic platitudes that we've heard all our lives...politicians throughout history, thousands of high school valedictorians each year, parents, grandparents.
keep your word, respect others, teach your children - Does Michelle Obama own the copyright on these generic ideas and ideals?
Another media tempest in a teapot, to try to distract people from the facts that Hillary got chopped off at the knees last night.
Lol
That reminds me of Judge Jeanine

Oooops
That reminds me of Judge Jeanine Pirro's tortured defense of Melania's plagiarism. She said that a word here and there might have been similar. Melania's writers nearly lifted entire paragraphs!!
I doubt if Melania wrote a word of her speech. Whoever did should be fired on the spot.
Just curious -- did you consider being intellectually honest by admitting the obvious, that this was wholesale plagiarism?

Funny, I was listening to the college sports channel on XM radio at lunch time and they played a tape where they dubbed Melania and Michelle's speeches over each other and as Rick Neuheisel put it - it sounded like they were singing together. Politics are a funny (and right now, sad) thing, had this been a Democratic candidate's wife repeating a Republican candidate's wife from 8 years earlier it would have been equally questioned and scrutinized.
I'm sitting this election out, neither party deserves my support. They actually embarrass me. I've always been registered non-partisan and what we're seeing with this election is a big reason why. Seriously, there are close to 320,000,000 people in our country and the best we can do is Trump vs Hillary?!! This is as much as you're going to get out of me in terms of politics guys but I don't think I can walk into a voting booth and feel I'm doing the right thing by putting a mark by Trump or Hillary's name.

Romney was probably as close as we will EVER find to a 'decent' human being. And, look what happened to him.

Just curious -- did you consider being intellectually honest by admitting the obvious, that this was wholesale plagiarism? Not ask of me, but.... I'll bite.
I don't think it's a slam dunk. That ONE section of her speech (and it's really just 1-2 paragraphs) is very similar. But, the theme is something I have said.. MANY TIMES. "Your word is your bond"? Who owns the copyright to that? "Treat people with dignity"? I bet someone has said that on this board.
I do think it's POSSIBLE that Melania came up with that wording on her own. "Possible", but highly unlikely. I'd put the chances at less than 10%.
Which... leads me to believe it was intentional. But why?
Could be:
1) Trump has RATS in his organization, who are intentionally trying to hurt him, or 2) Trump WANTED the 24-Hr news cycle to run side by side videos of Melania next to Moochelle. ie; He THINKS this is a good thing.
I have no idea which option is the truth. I don't accept any other explanation. It's too easy to check.

Hero: "Unity by saying screw the will of the voters. Sure, fine, right." The majority of the voters voted against Trump.

I generally feel the way you do but honestly feel Hillary is the most corrupt person I have seen run for president and I am forced to vote against her. I can't think of any scenario that would cause me to vote for Hillary. In almost every scenario, I am forced to vote against her. The fact that I will not have to vote for another retread regurgitated political talking head when I vote against her is a true bonus. Given a choice between only these two...some decisions just make themselves. I am 100% more confident the Supreme Court will be better without Hillary's influence.

Correct -- it wasn't asked of you. I was struggling trying to post this using my iPhone while 10 people were besieging me with different questions. In the process, I didn't make it clear that it was asked of tigercpa. The chances that Melania came up with that wording is less than 1 in a trillion. It is probably far less than that, because I expect that she had very little to do with the writing of her speech. I don't see any possibility that it was intentional. Rather, it was more likely a combination of ineptitude, laziness and disregard for originality by third-party writers. She delivered a speech that including significant plagiarism, written for her by someone else, very well. Her delivery was actually exceptional when accounting for English being her second language, for her being inexperienced as a public speaker, for her having to read from a teleprompter, and for the enormous pressures of the moment. It required enormous failures by her speechwriters, and by the editors responsible for proofreading her speech. These individuals have made Melania a laughing stock. Somehow, firing doesn't seem to be sufficient punishment for these people.

I agree totally -- with one exception.
The choice is not "between only these two". Doc is going with a third choice, i.e., to sit this election out, and I am going with a fourth choice, i.e., to vote for someone other than Clinton or Trump.

She probably wrote it in her native tongue and had someone translate it for her into the common vernacular boilerplate for political speak in a convention context... she clearly was reading parts of the speech.
Aside from a few hand-wringers, the voting public couldn't give a rat's ass about this incident.
We have terrorists gunning down Americans and cops all over this nation. No red-blooded American gives a crap about a few boilerplate lines which match some totally generic throwaway lines from Michelle's speech in 2008.

basically what you said...I told people at work either it was a) coincidentally similar, b) the speech writers also wrote Michelle Obama’s speech, c) the speech writers didn’t think they were doing anything wrong because they changed a few words around, d) they deliberately sabotaged her, or e) it was Trump's brilliance in manipulating the media to do it on purpose and get everyone talking about it, just like he did with the Mexican judge.

Bevo, I think it was purposeful.
Consider that he got 24-48 hours of the news cycle for free (again) and got millions of people to watch a speech they may not have otherwise watched.

Bevo, I think it was purposeful. Consider that he got 24-48 hours of the news cycle for free (again) and got millions of people to watch a speech they may not have otherwise watched. Pure lunacy. You would expect us to believe that Trump intentionally sabotaged his wife, and made her look like an airhead, and to become a laughing stock? This will be quickly overwhelmed by the campaign, but it will be a long, long time before Melania Trump will be taken seriously. The irony is that she did everything right, and delivered her speech beautifully. She was the unwitting victim of inept amateurs on Trump's campaign team.
