And the natives on the O-Zone forum are on the ledge and ready to jump. Good God, give the guy a chance!
I've seen McDermott coach several times against Xavier and he is an outstanding bench coach - the thing that impresses me the most is he lets the kids play. He stays composed, he doesn't pace the sidelines like a madman. We could do worse.
The bottom line is, Matta had reached the point where he physically couldn't meet the demands of the job. He thought he could but I think when he looked deep down inside, he knew he couldn't turn it around. A change had to be made. And when you make that change in June - most of the up and comers had already been picked. I think McDermott will do a solid job - time will tell.

I think when Coach K retires, Wojo or Collins is probably the heir apparent. He has done a solid job at Marquette and a younger guy with more energy toward recruiting makes sense.
