Several missing sailors have been found dead in the flooded berthing compartments of the US Navy destroyer that collided with a cargo ship early Saturday morning 56 miles from Japan.
According to the US 7th Fleet, the bodies were found Sunday morning by divers after the $1.5billion USS Fitzgerald returned to its base in Yokosuka.
The Navy refused to say how many of the seven missing sailors had been found – but revealed that 116 crew had been sleeping in the compartments that flooded when a 29,000 ton cargo ship crashed into the destroyer gouging a large hole in its hull below the water line.
The ship’s captain, Commander Bryce Benson, was asleep when the accident happened and his cabin was destroyed by the impact at 2.30am on Saturday.
Vice Adm Joseph Aucoin said Benson is ‘lucky to be alive’. Investigators in Japan are treating the crash as a result of 'negligence'

Yes, and equally strange that a modern U.S. naval vessel was unable to avoid the collision.

Yes, and equally strange that a modern U.S. naval vessel was unable to avoid the collision. I thin the Lexus I just bought must have better collision prevention technology. Somebody was asleep at the helm.

There is a lot of speculation here that the USS Fitzgerald was rammed intentionally, given the container ship's damage at the bow.
It is possible.
But a nimble US Navy warship, a real greyhound of our fleet, with sensing systems able to acquire and target ballistic missiles, manned by highly trained personnel being rammed by a far larger, far less agile and speedy vessel is not the first hypothesis.

I also highly suspect this was intentional. Couldn't have happened though... unless some US sailor was negligent. Unless the freighter had some kind of radar jamming. I've seen reports of such... from (not kidding) the Russians

Inevitably, the conspiracy theories take center stage! Lol.
I'll patiently wait for the results of the investigation.

Unlike readers of Conservative Treehouse, I am capable of thinking for myself. That is why I said that I will wait for the results of the investigation.

They're not linked anywhere on this thread that I can see. Also, an incorrect slam. Cons Treehouse often brings an interesting perspective to stories. You just have to be able to *think* for yourself about what they present.

I am perfectly capable of sorting through the journalistic bias in both Yahoo News and the Conservative Treehouse. Have I ever asked you to not reference a Conservative Treehouse article on this forum? Do you recall asking me to never again reference a Yahoo article? You might recall that it was a consequence of a direct quote in an article I referenced that didn't quite conform to your hopes and desires. Thanks for the advice, but I already can and do think for myself, Hero's accusation to the contrary.

Thanks for the advice, but I already can and do think for myself, Hero's accusation to the contrary. Fair enough... Although, I wouldn't agree that yahoo brings any new, or interesting perspective. They present the same biased BS that most other MSM sites produce. Thankfully, yahoo will likely be disappearing soon. :-) Also... for the record, it's pretty rare that I reference a Conservative Treehouse article on this site. I think I have, sometime in the past. Nothing like the daily yahoo links you bombard us with.

Lol. I don't seek out Yahoo articles. They automatically appear on my home page, which is My Yahoo. I set it up for Fox News and BBC. Many of the Yahoo articles actually originate from other sources, such as the AP and other news agencies.
