FINALLY...after 11 appearances in Omaha, we finally have a national championship in baseball. This wasn't our most talented team - our CWS teams in 1998, 2011, 2012, 2015, and 2016 were loaded but they couldn't do it. Our 2005 team lost in the final championship series to Texas 0-2. Same for our 2011 team to South Carolina 0-2. Third trip to the final series was the charm against the 6X champion LSU Tigers in an all-SEC series. Great couple of games, EV. Thanks for letting us have one. Apparently we are the only school in the country with titles in the big three (football, basketball, and baseball) in the last 50 years. I can now retire from sports. GATOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS: FOOTBALL - 1996, 2006, 2008 BASKETBALL - 2006, 2007 BASEBALL - 2017There are three other schools with at least 1 title in each of those sports during the football poll era...can anyone name them?

CONGRATS GG! At least, Texas is now still tied with LSU with 6 baseball titles. :-) Texas seems to suck at ALL sports not named Women's Volleyball. Baseball is the one that surprises me the most. :-( I know Ohio State is one of the teams, because I remember them talking about it when they won the football title a few years ago. I would guess maybe UCLA as well? Not sure whether they won a football title, but I would guess yes... AMAZING RUN for Florida though... these have all been very recent. And, B2B in Basketball. That's incredible in the 64 team tourney-era.

Nice goin , GG !!!! You picked the wrong year to miss it live but congrats to those Gators. Might not have been the most talented all around Gator team but that pitching staff, particularly the top two starters were the best combo. Good trivia question. Would Minn & Mich be among them and LSU ? This national championship team is made up of almost all home grown Florida boys too. That's kinda special, although HC Kevin O'Sullivan is a New York boy and UVA grad. Anyway, good thing college baseball chooses not to use a mythical system as Oregon State and North Carolina likely would have been 'voted' directly into the finals ( per BCS ). UF and LSU may have gotten semi-final appointments ( per CFP )..but either way, playing is better than voting. Congrats again..the Gators have now tied Holy Cross and Coastal Carolina for national championships ! hee

Correct that Texas and LSU are still tied with 6 baseball titles...going to be hard for anyone to catch Southern Cal with 12. You are correct on Ohio State and UCLA...the Bruins were "co-champs" in football in 1954 finishing #1 in the Coaches Poll while Ohio State finished #1 in the AP Poll. Why they did not meet in the Rose Bowl that year, I have no idea? There is one more school...

The CWS is one of the very best sports events, IMO. Looking forward to the Little League World Series now....also requiring teams to actually 'play' through a full post season championship playoff to 'earn' the title.

So it's Florida, UCLA thanks to football in 1954, Ohio State thanks to baseball in 1966, and Michigan thanks to baseball in 1962. Would have been cool to have won the finals in softball vs Oklahoma - to win both diamond sports in the same year...but I'm just glad to get this baseball monkey off of our backs.

I don't believe that Florida ever got higher than #4 in the guesswork mythical weekly rankings ( correct me if I'm wrong) but the Gators have the NCAA championship trophy. You know why ?...because playing is better than voting.

I'm not a huge baseball fan myself, but that game 2 was the most intense baseball game I've ever seen....very entertaining series despite the team I was pulling for losing. Congrats

Thanks EV...yes, Game 2 was extremely intense...especially that 7th and 8th inning. How we got out of those innings only giving up one run, I still do not know.

A championship won on the field of play in an inclusive playoff is beyond dispute or opinion. Congrats to the Gators!
