Bevo, that is what I meant. Saban can look all noble and be praised by the talking heads by being so bold, but has the "put at a disadvantage" out now, because it would hurt his program to do it unilaterally. So, he won't be looked down on or punished for proposing this but not doing it. The best of both worlds.

So, he can safely call for it. But, Nick is being honest about it. It WOULD be a good thing for CFB. And, he could manage it... Easily... As long as everyone else was in the same boat. But, it won't happen.... As you say, because of money. But, you only mentioned HALF of the story. The reason the G5 and lower teams accept AWAY only games is : they make MORE MONEY losing at Bama than they make winning at home. Pure and simple. These unbalanced games are good, financially, for BOTH schools. The only parties that lose out are: the fans.

The sad part to me is instead of everyone throwing in with a better idea they would rather talk about Saban. Result- when everything is said and done there is a whole lot said and nothing done.

But is Saban is a man of his convictions, maybe he should practice what he preaches. Why should he put his own team at a competitive disadvantage? Bama doesn't need "rent-a-wins" to be bowl eligible or to pad their wins to make the CFB. However, getting a couple or extra home games helps in the finances... and, having a couple of "weeks off" saves some wear and tear on his star players, and gives him some time to get back-ups some work. These are all valid competitive reasons to NOT go off and apply this model unilaterally. Either they ALL do it, or no one will do it. Either way, Bama will win. Thank God Steve Jobs was a man who was true to his convictions and didn't listen to people like you. There was no market demand for the iPad, and reasons galore why it wouldn't succeed. No one was encouraging Jobs to take the risk. No other company was about to join him.

Result- when everything is said and done there is a whole lot said and nothing done. LOL When I worked at Dow, we had a young do-nothing engineer that left us to work at another Division (his Dad was a Major Manager). His going-away gift from the operators was a sign that said: "When all was said and done, a lot more was said than done". Those operators! They really have a wicked sense of humor. :-)

the problem is you have about 10-20 programs outside the P5 that could be included...
Houston South Florida BYU Cincinnati UConn
Those schools are better than some P5 schools
If you add 1 or 2 more leagues and expand the playoffs to 8, well then you have a good structure
Utah, TCU, and Louisville all used to be on the outside, and they thrive in the P5. If this sport is about competition, you have to have a way for budding schools like Boise State, South Florida, and Western Kentucky a pathway to the championship

They can compete in the G5 playoffs. If they continue to excel, maybe they eventually replace a P5 team, or some P5 Conf takes them in expansion. In a sport where competition occurs once a week, it makes sense to have a reasonable limit on the number of teams competing in a given division. It also makes perfect sense to set Divisions based on similar levels of resources.
