Hen - I can only comment on games that I've seen, I'm afraid I missed that titanic struggle with Ohio Medical back in 1897!
And FYI, Chick Harley changed the direction of Ohio State football about 100 years ago. He was the first big named star for OSU and put the Buckeyes in the national spotlight. In Harley's era, the Buckeyes played in Ohio Field, which had a seating capacity of no more than 20,000. Harley excited the fans of Ohio State football so much that he inspired a $1.3 million funding drive, starting in 1920, to build the massive Ohio Stadium. For this reason Ohio Stadium is sometimes called "The House That Harley Built". Perhaps had Harley gone to Ohio Medical we'd still be talking about them today!
A little Buckeye history for you!

It is a shame that none of those great Buckeyes teams ever had an opportunity to compete for a real national championship.

It can't be of the NCAA, or of any NCAA division or subdivision, because they weren't championships conducted under the auspices of the NCAA.
