I visited with Maya last night....

The poor kid, she was completely wiped out and looked miserable. She can't eat because her stomach has basically shut down so she's fed via a tube. She's on steroids so her body is all puffed up. She tires out very quickly. They're putting another tube in when she returns to St. jude. the prognosis is they hope to have her eating again by late October or November. It's just so sad. We visited for about 15 minutes and then she nodded off. I think she's just about at the end of her rope - she needs some positive things to happen. Right now I think the fact that they don't think they can get her eating again for close to three months has her so dejected. She's gone through far more than a 13 year old kid should ever have to do. Half her life she's had leukemia - it's heartbreaking.

Her birthday is September 12 - I can post the address if anyone would like to send a card to her. She's a strong, brave little kid who sure could use some good news.
