Clemson’s offense looked much more crisp in execution and more efficient than I expected. Granted, we were playing a glorified high school team.
We’re really good in a lot of places. Skilled horses all over the field. And the offensive line can be elite. Austin Bryant looked at his best. Venables played a very vanilla defense all day.
The 61 yards TD throw from Bryant to Cain was as good as any deep throw Watson made all year in 2016. This is not to say Bryant will come close to outproducing #4. But he is a more elite runner with one higher gear than Watson) and our system (with incredible talent on the outside, a fleet of RBs, and a strong Oline at protecting) will make it easy on any QB.
Bruant also threw some hot passes into coverage that he shouldn't have. You came get away with that against KSU, but against Auburn, those would be INTs.
Watching RRM3 return punts and hang onto the ball has such a huge X-factor potential, kickoffs went into the endzone, Richard looked at least serviceable at TE, I think he could surprise this season, the WR core...holey moley, true freshmen looked awesome, Etienne, And Higgins are going to be superstars.
This hot take from an FSU fan:
Justen Gammel @gamscout
Deondre Francois looks like an NFL QB facing an NFL D right now. Remember how the Bama D handled Watson the last 2 years...Francois>Watson
We'll find out more about Clemson next week when Auburn comes to town.
FSU / Bama:
Both very physical, fast teams, with hellacious defenses. FSU's special teams put Francois in a corner, and now he's hurt. How bad? Probably we will know today or Monday. FSU OL still let Francois get hit too many times (10 or 11 think)
LSU / BYU:
LSU looked like they should. Solid, physical.
Around the horn:
Week 1 sort of Meh. Favorites beat up teams they should but no one really looked spectacular doing it. Maybe as it should be for week 1.
Games I watched:
Clem KSU
TX MD
Fla Mich
OK UTEP
NCST SC
FSU BAMA
LSU BYU
