It's getting real, fellas. Latest shows it turning north right into South Florida and coming right up the middle of the state. I can't believe now two years in a row we've had to put up storm shutters and hunker down. Last year was Matthew, now Irma. Got a storm room (master closet) to go into if necessary.

Good luck GG. I'm starting to get more worried about Destin and Gulf Shores.
Our neighbors also have a house in Naples. They're potentially in a bad spot.

There have been a number of times in my life when I've heard weather people predicting a "North turn" that NEVER happened. The bigger the storm, the less they care about "steering factors"... As I feared yesterday, this "turn" is coming later than they first predicted, moving the path further westward. It might still go west a little bit more. Two days out, and still... really? They don't know. Prayers for Florida! As I was saying, the North Turn has STILL not happened. I think it will, but.. in looking at the Sat pics, I think it's still 12-24 hours away. What that means is: Irma is going to continue slamming into Cuba, where she is going to take some significant damage. When she does get back over water, some strengthening will happen, because the water is SUPER warm. But, by then? The wind shear that will be pushing Irma more northward will also be damaging the storm structure. ie: Irma is not going to become a CAT5 again... Probably won't make it back to Cat 4, but.. that's still possible. The east coast of Florida is going to be fine. Heavy rains, some wind.. and, if you're REALLY unlucky, a few tornadoes. The west coast is still in danger. Don't want to be ANYWHERE NEAR a potential storm surge zone. I still think landfall could be anywhere from Naples to Gulf Shores. So, evacuating is a tricky game. To where? Best now to just be in a sturdy building. For anyone in a brick house that's probably at home. Just better have plenty of supplies. Might be quite awhile before the power comes back.

Go outside with your shotgun and fire two blasts into the air. This will scare the storm away. —Joe Biden

Sure Hope Herd's gazebo survived! I guess he's been pretty busy lately. Busy indeed, but the gazebo miraculously survived through 6 hours of hurricane strength winds. Rated for 50 mph. It wasn't even anchored. Inexplicable. The eye passed through Plant City, 10 miles east of our home. So, the eye wall might have passed over our home. But, Irma had weakened to a cat 1. The only bad news to report is that my wife would not allow me to drive around in the hurricane. Disappointing with the eye only minutes away.

You might want to keep her.. if only, to moderate your irrational behavior. :-) Glad to hear you survived.

Very perceptive. My wife is the greatest woman, and she is constantly saying that she doesn't understand me...
